fo you dashboard whore, how did you get it already? And why aren't you playing UNO, lolroflmao

;)

I'll look into it, if it's like Burnout. I've not really been following it though, so I dunno if it's good.

Just got this £29.99 from morrisons on the strength of the PC versions. Just noticed it has wheel feedback too so...

If you got Forza and want to switch off and break stuff, this is highly reconmended.

Its more fun online mate due to insane amount of online modes there is.

My fav so far is head on which starts out as a normal race only when you get to the finish line you have to do a U turn and go back to the start sound easy? not when you have 6-7 other players coming HEAD ON at you if you are in 1st position.

I have been laughing none stop at ramming people all day because you can do some crazy stuff to people.

I knew your answer already. Your first post in this thread shows exactly what your opinion about this/Burnout is ;) but thank you anyway sir.

So what are the biggest differences between this and Burnout? I've never really been into the Flatout series, as Burnout could give me my weekly fix.

fuck me, I've just read the Eurogamer review - there's a destruction derby mode :D

EDIT: best quote ever!

"You're probably thinking, 'my, what shocking and wanton destruction, it breaks my heart!' This is because you like My Little Pony too much."

Got this the other day and i have to say its a blast. Ultimately though, and ever being the critic i wouldn't consider it a 90%+ game, but rather an 80%+. Its fun yes, but it just doesnt seem polished in places. Its almost burnout level, but not quite :)

Dont let that fool you into me thinking its bad and people should definately get it for a bit of crazy carnage and especially the destruction derby online. Insane fun :)

Anyway my personal niggles -

The cars are way too heavy, would be fine with the ones that are meant to be but in time it gets irritating how they simply dont turn. Unsure why this design decision was made /shrug.

The Career side of things doesnt really gel well in my eyes. Ultimately you could ignore it if you want and the derby isnt so bad but the race mode pits you against fast driving CPU's which mean you have to avoid crashing in order to get 1st or vice versa. Its an odd mechanic and this game could really use catchup (like burnout) for that reason. Being 1st is bad, yet good.

Stunts in carnage mode really need a bit more feedback, possible a tutorial. Theyre bloody fun but if you dont know the 'rules' of the game your playing it can be a frustrating trial and error. I might be slightly nub at it which doesnt help but i cant bear to not get gold and cant work out for the likes of me how to launch as 'high' as is required on some.

Destrcution Derby is too much fun! No really, i find myself purposely looking for those events ;p. Ok not an issue but meh.

Anyway, criticism aside while the SP has some weak spots (in my eyes) the live mode is a HUGE blast. Was playing it on Thursday when it wasnt supposed to be out and there was only a few people on and we were all laughing our asses off.

Been playing this quite abit and can say that generally it is better than burnout.
The only bad point I can find is that in the SP mode, it at times can be very difficult to catch up with the front two drivers. I mean, i have got the fastest car and such I can get, and fully upgraded but really struggle catching them, although i dont crash very often.
One thing tho is the online side of it is awesome, never had so much fun....the destruction derby rules, esp when all in trucks or school buses haha. The head-on race is great aswell, especially if you are playing with a few friends all with headsets.

The handling is pretty shite with the street cars being the worst. The Derby cars surprisingly handle more like the street cars should, despite being tatty old wrecks that are bouncing around on mud.

This opinion is based upon Flatout 2, and maybe this new one doesn't suffer from this kind of stuff. It's a fun game from what I can see and multiplayer is definitely going to be fun (think modern Destruction Derby).

Fun.. but at 360 game prices... I'm not sure it's worth it at all ;)

First the street cars handle shit on sand/mud which erm is expected? take them on tarmac and its a whole different ball game and they drive like they should.

Second of all what do you mean about 360 game prices? you can pick up flatout for £35 which is cheaper then PS3 game prices :)

Infact most new 360 releases are priced now at £34.99 or if you go to blockbusters/tesco you can get them for around £32.99.

However if people are like yourself and shop at GAME then you can expect to pay £40-£50 because thats the only way i can see you refering to 360 games prices being high.

So facts straight first please.

Have to say having played it now for nearly a week im torn on if i truely feel it was worth getting. Theres so many good games atm that it really falls the the bottom of the pile in my books. If it had come out a month earlier...different story.

It has a real wow factor to begin with but the problem is it frustrates in ways that no game should. The AI combined with the racing model make career stink frankly. The game is awarding medals based on race position but the game is supposed to encourage wrecking. Problem is the risk:reward for crashing is very poor meaning to win you want to avoid crashing. Same across all 3 race types.
Beyond that the handling in this mode is wank and suffers from poor physics modeling in certain interactions. Spinning out when you shouldnt be, getting tons of air for hitting a pebble or being plain STUCK to another car is incredibly irritating when your winning a long race.

Carnage is awesome and presents very real challenges and really lets the crash and carnage aspect of the game shine. Stunts and Debys, top notch (Although the fact your cars spend way too much time on their roof is another bone of contention and doesnt add to the SP gameplay mechanics whatsoever but meh). Carnage mode is great and is how career should of been! Beat the bomb is a bit less fun but still promotes destruction so no problem there.

Mp is a blast and is one of the best for a while. Derby all the way for pure unadulterated fun. If you can force people out of trucks for once its a real test of sharp wits and bravery!

Overall, good game for 2/3 of it. Crap on the other 1/3 is how it boils down to for me. Thats a shame because with games like dirt or forza offering very complete packages, or burnout offering a budget and yet very well rounded lasting appeal it really doesnt stand up so well in my eyes.

Anyhow, I like the game dont get me wrong, but given how much other stuff i have to play at the moment which outshines it in my eyes do i feel its a worthwhile purchase currently? Maybe, but only if you have exhausted all other options.

Pebble? sounds to me dude you like to cut corners on the forest maps and hit the big BOULDERS at 100+mph and go flying again tell me whats wrong with that?

You sound like a guy who was on LIVE yesterday screaming because he hit one of those big logs at 130mph (i was just behind him doing that speed) and lost control and crashed he was yelling down the mic saying ''omg that should not have happened'' wtf you hit a big ass log at that speed and expect to mow through it?

Same with the boulders dude.

I think Forza online sucks to be honest everyone wants a simulation but they are all too keen to play bumpacars in the races so i asked myself why am i playing Forza when people just want to ram? i came to the conclusion that it had to be traded in towards this game because atleast a big part of the game is about Tboning the guy in front.

People cannot stop singing praises about this game online and the best bit is there are no whack jobs online like in Forza where i got constantly sweared at for getting my revenge to some idiot that thought it was funny to ram me off.

As i said the online is fine, my biggest gripe is with the offline and partly with what i assume is a proprietary physics engine.

What criticisms are mine, and if you like the style fine but i play enough games to know when i personally find the model a bit crap frankly.

Its a great game yes, but its nothing special OVERALL because of its letdowns. Taken on parts some are exceptional but for an all round experiences its lacking.

Well as I said, the Ricers handle poorly on the tarmac, which is presumably where they are meant to be, I said nothing about them handling badly on dirt, which I would expect.

I don't like jelly handling, an example of a game with sublime 'arcade' handling is Trackmania. The cars feel just right in that, no jelly handling and stupid motions that detract from the fun.

Not sure why you bring the PS3 into it either, considering I made no reference or mention of the PS3 and I would say the same about PS3 game prices too.

I am well aware you can get games cheaper than the RRP, I have been doing so for many years, that still doesn't stop me feeling like over £30 for a game like Flatout is too much.

I have never liked the prices of console games, they just get more expensive each generation.

Anyone still playing this?

Just got it today as crackdown is too expensive in most high street retailers (I was traiding a game in).

Let me know if you are up for some live action.
