Aye installed it yesterday, I cant seem to get themes working though. Not sure if its a bug or me being a numpty, but it used to install them automatically from the website. Now its asking to open a .jar file and errors every time.

To install themes:

Open the theme dialogue (tools-themes)

Drag the downloaded theme file and drag it onto the theme diag.

bing! :D

Using mostly crystal atm, very nice. The default looks shite though :(

I tried that Doh_boy wasnt working, seems to have miraculously started working now anyway just by clicking the links on the themes site. May have been something to do with the themes and update sites being hammered yesterday.

Firefox = Free and Adfree at the same time. Opera is nice but I just prefer FF :)

just out of curiosity, do :worthy: the powers that be have any stats on used browsers on FH ? (and if they do, could they share the percentages with us )

I thin only Deebs will have access to that information.

I gave up on Firefox 0.9 in Linux for now. First I used the plain tarball and it didn't even want to run. Then I used the installer tarball and it at least ran, but didn't want to know about the Tabbrowser Extension extension, the preferences window just having some errors in it and not even a button to close it.

I've heard of problems elsewhere too, some of which may simply be due to extensions and themes needing to be updated for 0.9, but not all.

I'd expect a 0.91 or somesuch out within a month.

As for the FH user-agent stats, bear in mind they'll probably be skewed towards IE by the DAoC hordes :p.

I too would expect a 0.91 pretty soon. I've only run 0.9 in Windows so far, but just the process of installing/uninstalling extensions (multiplely and singlely) caused the "You're Doomed" 'Firefox is installing extensions, this'll take a minute' messsage.

The only solution involves a new profile, which is an utter pain in the arse. You can apparently also delete the "Extensions" folder from within your profile, but either way, you lose your extensions and start again from scratch. My Linux install is still running on a Gentoo optimised build of 0.8 though, so I'm just going to sit tight until it gets sorted out. 0.8 remains an excellent browser of unfeasibly good stability for a pre1.0 release.

Indeed, the only trouble I have with 0.8 is some weirdness with Tabbrowser Extensions now and then (like trying to change the context menu contents the other day and ending up with empty context menus on tabs until I restored old preferences from a backup). I can't actually think of any purely Firefox bug I experience in 0.8.

Hopefully they'll sort the problems in 0.9 so I can get on with an upgrade for when there are definite new features/bugfixes I do need.

Aha, much of that may be due to the Tabbrowser Extensions rather than FX. There're a lot of people on MozillaZine who don't rate TBE due to its bulk and bugs.
One thing that has happened of late is a large number of extensions have appeared that produce a specific feature of TBE, but without the bulk/bloat. There's one to add "X" buttons to individual tabs for instance, another that allows you to scroll over the tab bar to change tab, another that changes the "Close Tab" behavior to display the last tab you viewed rather than the next one in line. I was actually able to dump TBE when these came about (there're more than just those listed above). It might be worth giving them a look (try: http://extensionroom.mozdev.org if Texturizer is still broken). You should find the browser is faster using these instead of TBE as well.

0.9 is better for me than 0.8 ever was.

0.8 was constantly fucked up on my install.

0.9 so far has been lush.

I can't find the theme I used to have, so I'm using the horrible default one. Ugh.

I've found a more useful way around the Extensions installation problem. Can still only install them one at a time, and I've not tried uninstalling yet (but you can "Disable", so not a big problem).

The erroneous part of a profile is the extensions folder, which if deleted removes the problem (and extensions, obviously) but keeps saved passwords, cookies and bookmarks. Therefore, open up your profile (C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\default.XXX\). Make a copy the "extensions" folder (extenstions.stable or something) and then install your new extensions. If it cocks up on reboot then you can restore the copied extensions folder and the problem will be fixed, but keeping your functional extensions intact.

Firefox 0.9 is great, until you reboot, then you have to delete your profiles in application data folder to get it to stop crashing everytime you open it :(

This just means me figuring out exactly which bits of TBE I do use, finding replacement extensions *AND* finding out if they actually work in 0.9.

With me being on linux I'd have to futz with my IRC /url script stuff too as the way to cause an extant firefox to open up a given URL from the commandline is buggy in 0.9. The method I use plain isn't working according to many, and I'd have to futz with my scripts to get the alternative working (if it even does and is available on my system).
Oh and I HAVE to use a /url script 'cos I'm running irssi on one machine and Firefox on another, so it does a happy fun thing of ssh'ing to the other machine (with a passphraseless key locked down to just that command, which accepts the URL on stdin) to run the script to poke Firefox to display the URL.
Oh and I dunno if this supposed alternative method accepts the 'new-tab' flag which I insist on using.

Meh, I'll stick with 0.8 until I hear at least that is fixed, which should have given extensions time to catch up with 0.9 too :).

-Ath, "Roll on 1.0 when they SHOULD then stop futzing with such stuff so much"

I completely uninstalled all the profile directories and any copies of firefox that were on my system and started from scracth. Forgot to save my bookmarks, but ho hum.

0.9 is soo much noticibly faster than 0.8 on my system its scary -and thats with TBE installed. TBE is working fine for me in simple mode, even though its not listed as an extension for 0.9

The browser discrimination has started :(

Installed firefox today and it'll take a while before I'm convinced :p

Tabbed browsing is over-rated, the only advantage is you get a 'taskbar' style list within the browser, leaving the desktop one free. I still find it easier to shift+click on links to open them in a new window. I haven't explored it fully though... it might still end up as my primary browser.

Odd. I don't have FX here (at Jo's), but looking at the page in IE it seems to be perfectly fine for other browsers. Seem to have a built in Media Player 9 player. Firefox I think uses Media Player 6 ("Classic") by default, but there's a way you can make it use 9. Whether this actually fixes access to that rubbish looking website is unlikely though. Very odd.
