FINALLY snuffed Belial on Inferno

yeah I am slow as fuck, I know. due to severe build flaws in my Barb I just couldn't get past Belial on the highest level. he'd destroy me in literally seconds and it was very frustrating: my Barb could ususally handle just about anything thrown at it, up to this level.

I had done some changes: eg moving towards a more VIT rather than STR based setup, but no joy....until I happend to stumble across a vid by a dude called Shinobi who's such an uber nerd so knowledgable re all things D3 that it just boggles the mind. Anyhoo, I watched the vid, spent about 500K (aka just over half my gold fortune) on 4 armor pieces and one weapon and smashed the shit out of Belial. amazing how much of a difference it makes!

what I did:
* Switch to a WW Barb configuration
* get crit damage and chance up as high as I could (currently damage is ~350% and chance is 48%)
* get resist all up as high as I could (atm all resists between 400 and 700)
* any extra VIT and STR is real real nice

everything else is just candy tbh.

Although I feel a bit dirty using the AH to get kit I didn't find myself, with my Barb as flawed as it was it dawned on me that a) this is currently the only way to do it, eg use the AH to play the game and b) with the loot system as crap as it is I'd never get past Belial unless I did it this way. I'm really not interested in running several chars just so I can collect enough loot to get one to a decent spec; just don't have the time

Hopefully Loot 2.0 will sort this shit out man.

Heh, I remember Belial, one of the more fun boss fights in the game.. in fact I think it is the most fun boss fight out of the major bosses.

I recommend a more pessimistic view. Expect the worst so you won't get disappointed later.

If they by chance actually get it right you will be pleasantly surprised, and that's never a bad feeling.

It'll be awhile yet before D3 is at an acceptable level, D2 wasn't amazing until LOD came out tho in all fairness, let's hope Soul Reaper is the D3 equiv to LOD and addresses a lot of the underlying issues.

Just reached the High Heavens atm. The Barb is performing well, although he still has the Perish Horribly At Random Moments skill selected somewhere. I took out A3's Ghom, SAB, Cydaea and Azmodan while yawning and looking at porn, but a random blue pack + rare took me out a couple times generally due to those fucking Arcane Sentry spells: pack will cast 3~4 of those and root me once or twice while I'm trying to get out of the crossfire and Barby McBarb just goes out like a light.

Still, I've tweaked the Barb a little and have my resists up over the 800's now without warcry so I can hold out against most things. Damage is ~65K now for a l60(5) Barb...amazing what kit can do lol THIS Barb is a monster compared to what he was a week ago.

I've also become something of a fan of that Shinobi dude. I watched a vid of his where he explains the benefits of magic-find and how it actually works in the game. Very interesting tbh!

Just finished spring cleaning. Took all my bank chars(and test chars) and cleaned them out(salvage), upgraded all geems etc and deleted the rest. Left my original regular char and lvl 40 HC demon hunter.

Not going to touch that level 40 though before i train back up with a new one

Anyone got an idea if the expansion is act V, or addition to old? Thinking if i should start leveling up a new char, or wait for new loot etc.

tbh I would wait for L2.0 simply because it's such a pain to find good loot. I got a legendary off the Jailer in the prison (en route to the Butcher) yesterday and I was all OOOH A LEGENDARY!!!!221sa23 and it was some shit club with shit specs. Meh. Talk about motivation eh :-(

heh my barb at L60P9 dies like an elephant shot with a bazooka on Inferno/MP3 if I'm not careful. I had to really change playing style and the entire kit setup to get him to survive Belial on regular Inferno at L60P3 let alone carefully navigating with a higher MP level. Cost me just over a million in kit and about as much again in gems to ensure he stayed alive (hums beegees) which, if the AH is anything to go by, is a very cheap build. My monk at L60P2 hasn't even completed Inferno but is already way more powerful than Teedlebarb: the ease with which he chops through mobs is just scary awesome but his kit is about 4x the price with careful tuning of the support char too. I should up the MP just to see what happens lol. Can you do that before you complete Inferno?
