Finally got to see it today.


Wasn't that bad actually. The thing I think which has confused critics is the Manga-ness of the plot (ie. confusing and bonkers!).


Giant tentacles absorbing human energy; Earth and alien planets having an inner mantra and all that BS the Japs love.

The plot did seem to drag a bit and the characters had no real life to them - particularly in some of the facial expressions of the character voiced by Steve Buscemi.


The CGI was very impressive. In fact astoundingly good. The lead character was almost fanciable:rolleyes: !


Only thing is, where was Chocoban?:D

No spoilers there for anyone who hasn't seen it yet 'eh Ono ;) I saw it on Saturday, and although it was graphically very impressive, the story was pretty weak... It also didn't seem to have too much to do with the FF games ...

Calling the plot bonkers and confusing is a little unfair. Yes, it leaves you to work a lot of stuff out, and it isn't your basic Western film affair - but it's easy enough if you have a brain. :)

Yes, it was why the American's didn't take to it. You need to use your brain, and it does things an American film wouldn't do and takes more risks.

How exactly could it relate to the games? It has as much in common with any one game as they do to eachother (same writers, developers, and a character named Cid - the only running trends in FFs)

I thought it was a brilliant film, if the ending was slightly lacking.

The gfx we're amizing ... the space marine esque guys at the start ... aside from that the story was a tad on the pants side and I FUCKING SWEAR THAT EAGLE WASNT ANIMATED! :)

Secondly Can someone Explain what the hell was going on,them Ghost things what we're they?and what was in the Earth questions questions aslo and how did in end still have no idea...

And it has no connection with the game whats so ever what happend to Mccloud or what ever his name is and the phook of Guardians you summon? And the turn base combat and the over long yawn –a- phon sorry that the game offered…hang on they do have similarities :D

I don't think the film would have gotten a release if it was based entirely on the games, as it would receive fuck all returns and no-one would go an see it other than a select few.

just An over the top($140) move with no Story.....it used the FF Series as an attaction to go mad with Silicon GFX and make a Film? it was a turkey a well dressed Turkey mind you :p

Thinking there was no story, along with your huge inability to string a competant sentence together shows that you are incredibly dense or ignorant and really shouldn't be allowed to voice your opinions on subject matters like this because: a) You have no clue what you are talking about, and b) Even if you did it would be impossible to understand.

Deco, it depends on whether or not you like (or know of) Manga and its style.


I do think that had this film been given limited release (and possibly had a Japanese soundtrack) it would have developed a cult following and been more critically acclaimed.


But, having spent so much money on making it, it had to go maintstream really.


Shame.


I will definitely be buying the 2 disc DVD release though.

It was Sony Pictures only release this summer - they had to pimp it to fuck, naturally - a limited release was never on the cards.

Excluding the OST, the soundtrack is Japanese. The two songs over the end credits are by Japanese artists - the lyrics were translated and the tracks re-edited for the American and English audiences.

You've actually seen the film? It was all quite lavishly explained, and only the thick or the american (or? why or?) would fail to understand it, its a great shame that Square pitched their likliness of a sequel on making $35m Stateside in the first weekend, I can only hope they do another foray into films.

Ah I see you're a long term FF fan (oh wait, no) - Cloud was only ever in one game (VI) - none of the FF games feature continuity so why limit the number of people who would understand whats going on in the film by involving characters from a game? it would have been the single worst move they could make.

Please, go back to your WWF & Monster Truck rallies, the americans need more people like you.
