well? as title. myself, I will vote no, because, while having played some of the FF's they never really gripped my nads.

i'm gonna join you with a "no".

i've owned a lot of 'em and played them.. but they never really grabbed me, so i never finished one, for me, i think the sheer size of them might be a bit daunting, i don't play games for many hours per day, so knowing a game is going to take me 4 months to get to the big shiny weapons and fights kinda puts me off

If you don't mind spending a weeks vacation on playing one, it's certainly a game any "gamer" should atleast try.

It's a legendary(to some) multiversal game to be so simple, leaving so much to the players choice in a restricted storyline, and those storylines are rahter corny but still amazing.

it's your "basic" manga story in a box. so if you like to play games, and like anime/manga stories...take a few days to try it out.

I wouldn't say it's a MUST play, but it's definetly not a no-no. It's an experience worth experiencing :D

There are better rpgs out there that don't have the same publicity, but FF8 and FF9 are 2 of my childhood favourites. I spent hundreds of hours leveling my characters on 8 to level 99, only to read that the baddies level with you, meaning the last battle took me about 2.5 hours. :(

FF7 is one of my favorite games ever, it was my first ever RPG, I've gone back and played it through again several times and each time I re-play it I seem to find something that I've never seen before.

That said I've never played any of the other FF games at all, so cannot comment on them :)

FF8 is worth playing alone for the awesome card game, and the amazing soundtrack. It was always my favourite. I remember the first time I saw that opening FMV and it blew me away. I never really got into FF7 for some reason. My brother loved it, but I could never enjoy it as much as 8 or 9. I think I was busy playing Suikoden in '97...

I have tried going back to the oldstyle Japanese RPG's lately, but they are just too linear for nowadays I think. FF10 was a bit rubbish too. The only (sort of) RPG I've played recently is Vampire : Bloodlines...which was bloody great. :D

Played FF7 when forced to, no other games around, played for half a day....went and sat in the garden.

Played FF8 at a mates when i told him how much i disliked 7.....played for a bit, dispised, agreed to cuddle his sister as acceptable alternative

All in all i just dont like the way they are setup, i cannot say one specific thing about them...they just dont stick with me.

Only played 7 and 10. Both were pretty awesome to be fair, so yeah, play em.

Fable was ok as a short action game. It certainly wasn't an RPG.

As for final fantasy I have mixed opinions. Despite never completing any of them I will be buying 12 when it comes out. So I have to put me down for a yes.

FF7 was awsome but after that it kind of got fucking boring and its just a cash cow for Square.

Well, I suppose I'm a bit of a SquareEnix fanboy then. I own every major Final Fantasy release except III (But I will as soon as it comes out on the DS :)), XI (MMORPG's are bent) and Crystal Chronicles (Distinct lack of a GC, no I'm not ashamed). I also own Advent Children which is top quality eye candy and provides good closure to Cloud's story in the VII universe. I also own the awesome Tactics (Yet to get into, very complex imo) and Tactics Advance (Which is one of the best games for the GBA). I will also be bending over backwards to get me some of that FFXII action and a bit of FFXIII on the PS3. :) All in all, I still think FFVII is the best game ever made, and that's knocking on being ten years old.

I suppose I sound really geeky, but to put your minds at rest, I don't have SquareEnix tattoo'd on my nips. :)

Final Fantasy Tactics is a fantastic game. :) Has it been released on another console since the PSX one?

No, I don't think so. I had to import it, along with Xenogears for my chipped PS1*.

*Not really! ;)

First movie SUCKED.... FF:AC was most probably one of the best CGI/Animé movies ever released.

Should atleast play FF10 if you want a quick game (20 hours play straight through) or FF7/8 if you've got some time.

Tried FF7, got fed up of all the battle animations, and the fact that I couldn't skip cutscenes, despite this being the umpteenth time I've seen then after dying in the battle afterwards. Plus most japanese RPG's seem shallow compared to western ones (Baldurs Gate, Fallout, Planescape: Torment, etc.), interesting stories, but not much scope for player determinism, more like a move than a game really.

I hate turn based RPG's, they make me want to kill.

Zelda owns FF and you all know it

Zelda is the best, bring on the Wii for my superior sword slashing technique.

Zelda does indeed win.

However I cannot agree that it owns FF.

Each and every FF game released, while having similar game mechanics, each has its own individual world and epic storyline.

Also I don't mind doing battles, infact I ususally spend the first week or so of playing just grinding out battles and making it so my characters kick every bosses arse with ease. :p
