Its one of those films you expect a lot from and doesn't deliver...especially from the 3 actors in it.

Independence Day - my only concern was the crap 1 liners and "this is, Independence Day" and we know the yanks would never come up with a master plan to save everyone... not that the Brits would either, my bet is china or ze germans oh and the film was a better modern day War of the Worlds than Tom Cruises

Superman Returns - after watching Smallville, just felt out of place and crap
28 Days Later - was a little dissapointed the way the soldiers got referenced
Miami Vice or pretty much anything with Colin Farrel in (maybe Phone Booth being the exception)

Weirdly, I enjoy most films at the cinema.. even if they're bad, I find it entertaining.

Works out well for me, because it means I'm not throwing money away

Oh, and Shawshank Redemption is a fantastic film. =/
It has Morgan Freeman playing a character who was originally Irish and named 'Red' (Re: Red hair) ffs. Nuff said.

And Smallville ftw tbh ;D

However, never, ever bother to watch Aeon Flux.

And on the Sunshine discussion - I agree, I loved the filming and the atmosphere, it just felt like it was trying to be two or three different movies at once (psychological thriller, horror re:event horizon, etc.).. if it had an extra hour to expand the different storylines more or had focused on one a bit more I think it woulda been mint :x

Finally, original Transformers movie = best movie ever. I want them to put that on at the cinema.

It was around 1 hour 45-50 IIRC. You really wanted it to be another hour longer, making it approaching three hours? No way

Ghost rider - watched it the other day and it just moves from scene to scene like chavs moving from arcade to arcade.
fast and the furious -and probably it's sequels although I refuse to watch them
crank -stupid film, interesting idea but very poorly executed

There are more but these show this current trend of directors who are actually still 10 years old in their heads. I've always wanted to be a writer since I was young and sometimes when I read my old stories they're almost written in the same way that these movies play. Yes high octane explosions and car chases can be a good thing but when they're done in such in such a way that they become cheesy, the suspension of reality is lost and you revert to shouting "WTF?" at the screen. The only way to get around it is by either getting an established, credible character to do it (ie John Maclane in die hard 4) or to put the situation in an enviroment the audience can't relate to (ie starship troopers)

Aye, Boyle's certainly beginning to master technical aesthetics with great speed. While he showed potential in films like Shallow Grave and Trainspotting, it is his more recent efforts that have shown that he seems to be on the path to true greatness, as long as he sticks to films that are strongly grounded with a sense of 'unreality'.

Starship Troopers was an ace left field movie, however Starthip Troopers 2 is prob. the worst film ever made.
