I enjoyed the Dark Knight but felt it was too long and Batman's voice was just utterly stupid.

Wanted for me was the most enjoyable movie of 2008, not sure why but it's the only movie this year that I've bought on DVD and actually watched more than once after seeing it at the cinema. Mcavoy was great in it.

I walked in to a mates house while he was watching that. Just at the bit where Angelina was in one car and McAvoy was in another. They were trying to kill a guy in a bullet proof car or something and they drove at each other full speed. Jolie hit the breaks just as they were getting to each other and McAvoys car like twirled over the bullet proof car, he said "cya" or something to the guy in the car, shot him and landed safely on the road.

I couldnt bring myself to watch it after seeing that, but a lot of people seem to like it....

Iron Man was really well put together, left it in a good place for more.
Dark Knight was a good 2nd, its always tough to make a follow-up film.
Rec (think it was 2008) was a great film this year, I hear Hollywood is making a version of this? bleh.
Hancock was a lot better than I thought it would be, for a non-DC and Marvel entry it did well on the Super Hero movie.
No Country For Old Men, still not sure i know what this film is about :(
Indiana Jones, no Nazi's died? Not as good as the original films.
Cloverfield, given I'm not a fan of the 'shaky-cam' style of shooting, it was a decent.
The Mummy (3rd film) was awful, worst film of the 3.

Trying to think of the other films I've seen and remember... but can't.

Wheres a TV series thread? :D

it's been released already, it's a shot-for-shot remake...a bit like haneke remaking funny games.

No Country For Old Men, still not sure i know what this film is about :(

you need to watch it again. it'll sink in.

Ah ok, I'll check imdb for the name of it then, must be coming out soon I guess.

And yeah, I might try and catch another viewing of No Country for Old Men :)

I haven't thought about it yet, but of the lists you all have provided No Country For Old Men is the best, although I'm biased towards that having loved it as a novel first. If you haven't read it go read it, it's really very good. Even as I read it I was thinking to myself how well it would translate to film. Was pleased the Coen's didn't mess around with it too much. Although I did hate the cinema audiences that saw it, for some reason (probably OMG it's a Coen film!!1111) everyone thought it was appropriate to belly laugh constantly, even though it's NOT a comedy. Sure it has a couple of bitter comments which are worth a smile, but if you found it funny you truly missed the point of it.

The Dark Knight. Just sat through the blu-ray of it, it just gets better the more you see it.

for putting a smile on my face - Iron Man

for making me laugh alot - Juno, What happens in Vegas & Forgetting Sarah Marshall

I've not seen quantum of solace yet or Dark knight so I can't comment on them.

My best film of the year so far is easily In Bruges. Top, top movie.

Quantum of Solace, I didn't enjoy it as much as Casino Royale when I first saw it. Then I watched Casino Royale on DVD before I saw it a second time and it just lept up in my rankings.

Iron Man was excellent and I know I'm super eager for the next one to arrive.

Dark Knight was an excellent film but I didn't felt it tied to the first one as well as Bond did. If memory serves (it's been a while) you don't see any part of Wayne manner being put back together? I did however piss myself laughing at the wrestling line that was in the dialogue, 5 points for anyone that tells me it.

You don't see it being put back together, but Alfred comments that when its rebuilt, Bruce can spend his knights not sleeping there instead of not sleeping at his penthouse.

It's very, very good Tom. One of those movies you can watch again and again.

Best film was In Bruges, it was magical.

On a different note the worse film of the year for me is The Day the Earth Stood Still.

How the hell did they cock that one up? I Keanu be'Reaves it

Best film for me though Was Lives of Others (though its an earlier film, took a while filtering across the sea to me)

I've been catching up on films with a Lovefilm trial, I was about to echo this sentiment until I checked the release date.

My second choice of Hidden wasn't released this year either.

....

No Country for Old Men it is then.

I'm looking forward to it albeit from the trailer it's nothing like the classic original.

But them ask yourself, if you watched the original dtess now, would it actually be any good, it's one of those nostalgia is best left that way moments.

I have the original dtest digitally restored, and it is far better. The Telegraph review puts the new version in its rightful place, 1 star.

It is effects over story. The original concentrated on something that many modern films fail to grasp, character development.

I was looking forward to this re-imagining but it has the feel of a film that ran out of money and had too many writers shoehorning absurdities into the story line. Buy the original and enjoy a classic.

I've just watched The Dark Knight in 1080i.

I don't see what the fuss is about. Its about 40 minutes too long, and not as good as the first one. Heath Ledger though, was ace.

Thats the point, the fuss is about Heath Ledger, he made the film much like Pacino makes films and De Niro makes films. He owned the screen.

Why so serious?

The Dark Knight truly the best film I've seen for years.

And Heath Ledger truly opened my eyes. I was like omg who is that actor, and then I find out he's dead, thats just sad. :(

Seen him in A Knights Tale, but didnt know he was such a good actor before this Batman film.

Yeah Knights Tale is great as well, enjoyed that.

Apart from Dark Knight the best role I have seen him in was one of his early films called Two Hands, so very funny, go and find it if you can.
