Its unfortunate really for Shevchenko, he actually looked like he was starting to play well then he got fucked with an injury. Now that Grant has enough trouble picking Drogba or Anelka he won't get a look in except in easy games.

I feel so sorry for Schevchenko, but then again he was silly to be tempted to Chelsea. He is still like the 2nd CL scorer of all time (him and Raul keep swapping places so not really sure) and only 2 years ago was one of the best in Europe. Now he is confined to the bench behind ex Bolton players. I hope he has one last stretch of good form where we can see him back to his best before he retires.

I think he has the tools yes, but how many times has a striker, not just in the premiership, burst on to the scene in his first season, but then suffered from second season syndrome?

I think this is normally done by strikers that people haven't really heard of before. What they tend to do is perform well as a striker then second season get marked out by a threat by opposition teams so the defenders are more prepared for them before the match starts, and they struggle.
Everyone knew from day 1 this season who Torres was because of the massive price tag so I don't think he'll suffer so much from it as a complete unknown. The second season might not be as easy since teams will of seen more of him and have better ideas of how to deal with him, but he'll also be gaining experience of how to play in the Prem this season to balance that.
