Faulty modem & OCUK returns

The v.92 internal creative modem I bought from ocuk, keeps on disconnecting after a few mins, I have set it to never disconnect. I have tried it another computer. The troubleshooting in the manual talks about conflicts, but according to modem resources there are no conflicts.

My external modem works on both computers ok, and I'm using an old internal one in the new computer ok.

I'm sure the modem is faulty do you agree? I have emailed ocuk, but they have not replied. I will now ring them and get a RMA. I just want to be sure it's faulty because they charge £25 if it isn't.

Anyone had good experience with Ocuk returns, and is my modem faulty or is there sonething else I can test? Is it worth returning a £15 modem? when they could charge even more?

My girlfriends dad didn't have too much of a problem returning a monitor that was untouched and not opened, although they do charge you a 15% of the price of the goods restocking fee (bit of a bastard if you've bought £1000 worth of stuff).

However a mate of mine has has terrible problems with returns. To cut a long story short, they said they had tested his kit and it was faulty ram and proceeded to send him someone elses stuff. He returned the 'wrong stuff' and they sent out the correct goods to him, only for them to still be faulty. The bloke at oc.co.uk made him feel an inch tall and said he had personally tested the goods. They advised him to return the goods again, and if there was nothing wrong he'd be charged a testing fee. He's heard nothing: no email and no phone call for over a week, but that could be because of a delay in delivery. If they can't even return the right stuff, how can I be sure they tested the right stuff.

According to the DTI, if the goods aren't fit for purpose (e.g. you've bought a modem and it doesn't work in your setup, but it works in someone else) then you are entitled to a full refund.

Read about it here

If oc.co.uk give you jip, kindly inform them of the above.

Just be arsey as hell with em, make sure you get to speak to a manager and if needs be drop hints about going to trading standards.

Just make sure you stand your ground and refuse to be fobbed off.

I bought a CPU from oc.uk, it was faulty, emailed them, got a quick response and RMA, sent it back, got a new one the following day.

No complaints here, although I did use my company account, that might have had somethign to do with it.

Ok, I've exhausted all the possibilities. There are no updated drivers, and i've tried a different com4 port, was com3 first, tho I think com1 com2 are for the external serial devices. I've tried extra init commands as recommended by the troubleshooting at creative.com

Also I have a pci sound card in the 3rd pci slot & the modem in the 5th. So I don't think it's sharing anything.

I've going to give the modem to a mate to test..before getting a RMA. I have 12mths to return it anyway.
