saw this on MSN and it really made me laugh i mean theres the gallery and they are comparing girls you have the "fat" one and the thin one (fat one... sorry "fat" one is usually described as curvy and voluptuous...) is it just me or are they all flipping skinny?

You still have to remember that the average UK size is 16 (US size 12) so tbh media perceptions of "correct" size are completely flawed.

really when you get down to it its all a load of bollocks tbh isn't it i mean we watch the movies or tv shows with these women in and we see them eating pizza and drinking sodas and it subliminally clicks "thats how they really live" so we're all a bit miffed when we have a slice of pizza and puff up and all of a sudden media images of women smaller than us are said to be "fat"

i really really wish they would make a documentary showing how these actresses really live, all the fun things they just can't do because they have so little energy etc. and the thing that really bugs me is theres nothing we can do about it, we can't stop media from air brushing we can't force hollywood actors to eat a proper dinner and stop throwing up etc to maintain the figure.

I just wish they'd keep everything in perspective rather than what they do atm which is say lindsey lohan for example eats a pie "shock pics lindsey pigs out!" then this girl thinks argh shit no one'll want me in their films i'd better stop eating so my ribs poke out at the next oscars that'll get the media on my side, then its "shock pics lohan weighs less than a termite!!"

it just really annoys me that people think this stuff is real and that people should be judged on what the media (or even other people) see to be the correct appearance.

sorry lol bit of a rant but i had a freind when i was at school with annorexia and its just such a stupid illness she weighed about 4 stone and still wouldnt eat (wasn't me btw, you couldnt stop me from eating tbh i was to bacon sammiges what the terminator was to women with the last name of connor), stuff like this reminds me how easy it is for young kids to be influenced.

Maybe I'm just weird, but I've always worried more about how someone dresses and carries themself than their weight. I certainly think that a woman who is a size 20 or so but know hows to dress to flatter their figure will look much better than someone who is a size 12-14 who likes to wear skintight tops with their pasty chav bellies hanging out over their belts

To be honest, I myself am pretty overweight and I compensate by wearing VERY baggy clothes that make me look like I'm wearing a blnliner! I don't think that's the best course of action, but it's all I can be arsed with. I've never really been one to dwell on my appearance overmuch.

As i said at the first post when i made this thread this isnt a thin or fat which is better? thread this is about the media showing pics of skinny girls next to pics of really skinny girls and then implying that the skinny one is fat just because she's a bit bigger, i read about keira knightly who actually said that she feels fat when shes in america becuse she is actually twice the size of some of the girls who audition with her and if something can make someone like her feel fat then it simply has to be a bad thing

I was watching a show last night called how to look good naked and there was this stunning girl on there who had a really stupid issue about her arse being too big, im not kidding she had a great body, flat tum nice but (wasnt big in the slightest) and she had almost a body dismorphic mental condition about it it was rediculous and i had to turn over in the end (show her what a big but really is lol) i couldnt watch it.

Everyone prefers different things which is a great thing tbh and i'd never say its wrong to prefer thin or fat people blondes or brunettes its all personal however with the media its not personal its taking unachievable goals and then making people believe its reality.

although size 0 is silly, at the other end of the spectrum women who go 'I love my curves bla bla bla' are overweight in the majority of cases.

90% of the time its the lack of exercise thats the problem, not the diet. The media fuck it all up by promoting all these shitty diets instead of pushing the simple message 'If you burn more energy than you eat, you'll lose weight'

edit: if your pushing up on past the 15 stone mark (an extreme example) as a women, its most likely you really have a problem... a problem thats gonna fuck the NHS over just as much as smoking/alcohol/hard drugs. So yeh, its most likely some people are gonna hold you the same contempt for you as many do for smokers/alchoholics/drug addicts as its a sign of lack of control and discipline in your life.

If it doesn't matter to a person how they look, why do they complain about the way people are potrayed, or that some people want to look like it.
