Lo ph4t l4d :)

Has anyone approached you yet about running an RA3 CPMA league - The BWCPMRAL?

Are there servers available if they have?

Was just curious... :)

Was thinking initially:

Thursday nights/Sunday Afternoons

Divisions = 3x10 initially (dependant on sign-ups)

1 map per week

Best of 11

All damages off (armour and falling) regardless of map defaults (discourages camping)

CPM 0

Uneven teams permitted (IE: 5v4)

couldn't dream of any better league :)
The only problem I suspect is about the map choice, but well, with the other system (clans choosing their maps) you still have to play crap maps when other clans chooses them, so stick to a weekly map cycle, it's the way to go imo (like bwra3l and some other leagues have always been doing :)

A single map per week is the only reasonable way to run a league, because clans choosing their own results in about 70% choosing the same map, making the league bloody boring.

3 divisions of 10 clans = 9 weeks = 9 maps.

RA3MAP1
RA3MAP3
RA3MAP4
RA3MAP7
RA3MAP9
RA3MAP11
RA3MAP12

And two customs maps.

Leaving out:

MAP2 - Spammy and campy
MAP5 - no locational markers in the Clan Arena
MAP6 - Cos it's shit
MAP8 - See map2, and it's also a shit job of a port
MAP10 - Too big?
MAP13 - Ditto.

Just my initial thoughts though.

yeah

I agree on all points with you, except maps :)

map10 is not that big and very funny to play, I never understood why so many people dont like it. The double jumper is so nice :p

map13 is quite big ok but matchs are usually nice on it.

map2 is very samll and fast, of course some can camp in the huge bumper room, but well... it can be only done with a huge spam and ammo are not infinite, it is definitively not an option any clever clan would easily understand that. I would even say that map2 and map7 are very near on this point. I like map2 a lot :)

map8 is at least original, it differs a lot from all the others and always gives fast and furious battles. lovely :) Several clans use map8 as homemap, like X3.

But anyway no problem to remove them if noone like them.

map5-map6 are finally the only maps I hate in ra3, map5 is campy with no location and map6 well... it is map6, the most boring map ever :)

ummm

I do not agree with the map choices of either of you two, but it always is a tough subject. :)
Maybe the future head admin of this league could set up a poll, let's say, one mail by clan, each clan picking up 7 maps, and then he would decide of the map cycle adding 2 custom maps he would choose on his own. Always fun flaming the admin for his crappy custom maps choice :D
Votes with less than -?- maps could be ignored also (to avoid clans voting map1 and map11 only and giving no vote to other maps).

Is there any chance that such a league could be set up ? :)

Nobody has approached me, Sunday afternoons would be best i think as there is the CPM and soon the Q3FT league on Thursdays. If someone did want to do the league i could get the webby up and so on, but of course as you know SAR leagues can be quite time consuming :D

nice idea, but I do think the maps would have to be open to big discussions.

Map8 is a v. good map, with the only bugbear being the location markers, but I think by now most clans have their own names for the locations anyway. If played properly its a very fast and skillful map (watch some old german demos, those guys know how to move around it).

Map6 I still really like since it was changed, its much much more flowing than before and can really show up a clan's teamplay (or lack thereof).

An email poll open to all participating clans seems the way to go, after all, this league (if/when it ever happened) would be done solely because people want to play it, so why not let them choose where it should be played too.

oh yeah - if it happens, please please please make sure that the admins know how to use the mod :) .

maps

the problem with map6 is it's too big imo, as some other maps are too (map13 for example).
Too big maps means too much fleeing / long range sniping ans fucks up RA3's gameplay imo. But all in all it's just a question of taste and has to be discussed by all clans that would participate in such a league.
Oh and for the admins yes, they would need a little information to start with admining (but what a quality adminning we would get then :)
I hope someone will ask biffy for running such a league (I can help but am not sure of having the time to do it myself :/)

good idea when all is considered but don't have it thursday nights. That is the night of the Jolt league and it wouldn't be fair to make clans choose would it?

Hope Jolt will start someday thpugh, I'm really looking forward to playing this league ;[
Sunday afternoon seems ok to me, would avoid a lot of sundays afternoon's boring stuff :D

Right, well I quit work 5 weeks tomorrow, so I'll have plenty of time to devote to its running, but not before then, as Sat/Sun are my only days off until I leave.

I've run plenty of leagues before, including RA3, so I know what's involved from the perspective of both time and effort, hence why I'll be more than willing to throw myself into it fully once I get March over me.

The most important thing are the admins though, as they are the grease that makes the league run smoothly. I've learnt this one the hard way from running the Q3 WPDML last year, with sometimes only 2/3 admins available per night.

Ever tried adminning 2/3 TDM games simultaneously? Mucho fun I can assure you :D

So yeah, I'm more than happy to run it, provided it starts probably mid-late April to give me time enough to get myself sorted out etc after quitting work on March 28th (not counting the days. Honest!).

What we can do then is get a web-site up within the next week or two, open sign ups for 2-4 weeks, giving clans (and me) plenty of time. Then I'll poll the clans on maps and draw up the map list, have a weeks break, then kick off.

How's that sound?

Not really tbh

Sun/Mon nights = BWCTFL

Tue/Weds nights = BWDML

Thur nights = JRA3L & BWFTL

Fri = On the pish

Sat afternoons = BWRA3L

Sat nights = veg in front of telly & booze

So Sun afternoons is really the only really viable time...

hum

Jolt is down since december, can we still really count on it ? if we must wait till June, I think that BW should not take care of a "perhaps-jolt-league" and run on its proper days, the last league to come will use the day left. :) Sounds rude but I guess it is the way to be.

And btw look at savage. We (Zn) have savage CTF at 20:00, and BWCTFL at 21:00. Having it the same day is not a problem, when forming division jolt will also take care of avoiding clash with bwcpmal, that's all. having a full day per league is just impossible, or please create a 15-days week :)

plz, i want map8 !!!!

this map rox, and it's reallly an original map and hmmm, i don't think u can camp on it :)

S

Sar

Well there's going to be a clan email vote on the maps prior to the league starting, so if enough people want it map 8 will be in there.

The only maps I'll be picking will be the two custom ones, and trust me, I'll do my best to ensure they're good ones :)

!

please please please do not take the bwra3l map techx, weirdest map.

small maps with no campy places and not fully opened to avoid boring long-range rail wars :)

what about dm6 ? :p

Lol

NO DM6 :D

TechX sucked the big one, especially because armour and falling damages were on. :(

tbh...

no.

i wouldnt sign up for it cos fairplay cpma is wank. i aint bothered to spam posts everywhere hailing ra3 nore condeming cpma eventhough my opinion is that its ra3 forever. so what if cpma has all these fancy functions, better netcode, and advanced cheat protection...its not the game we downlaoded back in august 2000, it doesnt feel the same, nore play the same, it isnt even osp which some of you so foolishly compare it to:)

i say long live ra3!

Pretty daft post tbh :)

It's the gametype we enjoy playing (Rocket Arena), RA3 is just the mod used.

Well, until now.

CPMRA FOREVER!!! :D

True, and RA3 doesn't.

True, and RA3 doesn't.

Again true, and RA3 wasn't - it was July 2000 :p

it doesnt feel the same

True, cos it has reliable and properly working physics!

nore play the same

True, because of the previous point we don't have to wade our way through CRTs treacle-ish mire of DLL code - we're actually playing on code designed for the 1.31 patch, not 1.27

it isnt even osp which some of you so foolishly compare it to:)

Yes it is essentially. Well as near as two mods can be and remain seperate entities. Code sharing, common features, common cvars, similar admin facilities etc...

I'm a little confused, you call CPMA 'wank' and then list (some of) the things it has that RA3 desperately needs (and by all accounts will never get, unless CRT does release the source). I can't see any actual grounds for rubbishing it :/

I can't see why anyone would take on coding RA3 some more though, as the things it needs and would take on board would be those we already have in CPM.

oh and comparing OSP and CPM isn't foolish, not considering the amount of code and development they share.

lol i spent so long agonising over whether or not to do a similar reply and as i post that one appears :)
