This is probably easy to do, but I've not used excel in ages so could do with some help :(

Basically I have a row of data like: 1 x 1 1 1 x o x 1 1
and the cells, with conditional formatting change colour according to the value entered (1-green,o-yellow,x-red).

But I need to tally up the total of each symbols into a table. In this case:

1 - 6
o - 1
x - 3

But any idea what formula I could use to do this? I'm ripping my hair out agghgh :(

=countif(a1:a10, "1") will give you 6. replace the "1" with "o" or "x" for the other results.
