If anyone wants to play it let me know: I've got 2 beta u/p's (signed up twice without realising it). One's "activated", one's got the invitation email but not activated. The game's total shit though, so I wouldn't recommend it.

Graphics are great, sound is great... but warping looks pretty only so many times. :(

And mining.. god, I was dreaming about mining asteroids.
*shudders*

Eve is a bit like meditating.
I call it my moment of Zen in front of an asteroid.

*goes to write a Haiku*

So - what's with this asteroid mining thing? Do you not just blast them the fuck apart and suck 'em up? :)

No... you warp to the next roid field, hover in front of a roid to use your 1MW slave tattoing laser... wait until the cargo hold has been miraculously filled with ore (which can take quite a while)- return to some station, sell it for some lousy cash.

Rinse, repeat for a couple of times (10.000 times or so) until you can actually afford a ship with a bigger cargo hold and a better mining laser.

Rinse, repeat... and... rinse, repeat.

I wouldn't call DAoC repetitive anymore after having played Eve.
Camping a spot for hours just to get an elusive one time drop is more fun than mining asteroids.

But perhaps I am just ignorant and impatient. :p
And it's only beta after all.

Sounds like Elite, but my understanding is that you can work together with other people, to take some tedium out of the game. Games like this are always boring at the start, things get exciting when you upgrade to a level to begin competing

True, Tom.

They should make it a little more rewarding, tho - like giving newbies some moments of success to ease the mining-grind.

Mining _should_ be boring for newbs, this is a trading game, I ditched mining and trade now, much more fun. You can earn money without mining at all (and I have).

The newbie ship is lousy for mining, thats why, get a mega-cargo jobbie with loads of mining bits and you'll earn a fortune, but I don't see why anyone should get rich quick with wht is basically the Fiat Uno of the intergalactic motor pool.

Well, installed it last night. Had a couple of problems with the patching servers, but a couple of retrys and I was in.

So far I'm impressed. The interface to the game is not only beautiful, but also very intuative and easy to use. I like the fact that they seemed to have modeled it on a standard GUI OS.

The tutorial was nice and simple and laid out the "How to move your ship around, mine and shoot things" very well.

I didn't get any time to start looking at all the other bits and pieces yet. That will come this weekend.

I did dock at a station after the tutorial though and had a chat with some friendly people. I can forsee me enjoying EVE, but probably not enough to subscribe after the beta.

Personally I'd like a Squirrel forum. I took some great pictures of the squirrels outside my house the other night. They ran away when I tried to give them some cheese.

Probably my fault for running at them, half pissed, with a block of chedder.

If anyone's got a spare account going, I wouldn't mind giving this game a go. Ta.

Until the other account I signed up with gets accepted into the beta, has anyone else got a spare account that my m8 could have to give it a go?

Played last night for the first time. Its very pretty.... but tbh its kinda pants.
