Epic Armour

...anyone else feel it should be upgraded a bit? When it's gotten to the point that people talk of Epic as though it's something you use when you can't get anything better...IMO it needs a bit of loving.

When I started playing this game, Epic was the paragon of armours (barring the ocasional dragon drop or equivalent ultra-rare thingy)...I'd like to see it back to that level again.

Or make an additional set of armour for getting say Realm Rank 5, or maybe 1000+ in crafting or similar ideas...

But yes, I agree that it's a pity that no-one really opts for Epic armour anymore... visually it improves the game... Top crafter armour looks as boring as newbie armour...

Is there anything in the pipelines?... and it better be more than winged helmets! ;)

Just admit you would like to be 1337 and buy SC armors but you can't afford it.

Imho epic should need about 4fg's

I already own top notch SC'd armour...

But it looks soooo dull.... combine SC armour with some nice designs... now that would be tastey...

Just take those 4fg and go to your local SI epic dungeon, get nice armour from there...

most epic armour quest can be completed with a handful or less of people.

why should something you get for virtually no effort be as good, if not better, than items that are difficult and desirable to obtain...

epic armour destroyed the desire for certain PvE drops which people spent a long while and a lot of effort obtaining, took a lot away from the game when they added it imo.

Yeah, and the situation with Epic dungeons now is terrible...people go and lotto for drops purely so they can sell them for the highest possible price, fleecing their realm mates for huge sums of money when they should be making some player's night.
You ever tried actually GETTING say, a Tuscaren Glacier drop? It's like pulling teeth...

Epic armours need to be tweaked but not made upto the level of a top quality suit of o/c spellcrafted/crafted , most epic's suck because of the wasted slots used for +pow or having 2 different weapon skills. More important is the need for a range of different graphics on crafted armour, the standard look we have at the moment is dull as dishwater.

chodax: i know that they have changed high end drops i.e dragon and epic dungeon to have +acuity, +melee, +spell lines on them..... i reckon they should do the same for epic to make it less worthless.

or

they make a new epic quest for when you reach rr5 to give you an af102/51 set almost as good as sc.... like 90% as good. in fact make it seperate so we dont have to do all the crap 1st imo

Tbh, it's kinda like glowy weapons. When I first started, (couple of weeks after release) if you saw someone with a glowy weapon they were uber. Nowadays its something almost everyone has. Epic armor and glowy weapons should be uber items to have.

Epic armour should be made non-tradeable as well. It would stop all these buttmonkies running around in BG1 with sorcerer epic armour...something that took me a long time and a lot of sweat and blood to earn back in the old days. :/

I agree, i also think SC has made the game worse in a few ways. When i got my epic armour i was so happy because it looks the bomb, unfortunelty the way the stats/resists are a nightshade could easily of beated me in a duel (in full SC of course). Now when i got my SC gear, i've beat every nightshade...leaving my epic armour to collect dust and more dust in the vault. Epic armours should be perhaps more customizable to your choice involing finding a legendry npc to make it in an extremley difficult place. In past MMORPGS i really enjoyed hunting with friends for better equipment, it was a joy when we found a nice item that was better then one someone using. We would strive to find, say an axe with better stats than the one i was previosuly using. Of course none of the template bullshit, you used what you had, if you found something better to make you stronger all the better! Now people can just order their armour with stats they want just like a pizza, kind of sad imo :(.

put some procs on them, and maybe up the stats a tiny bit...

then make them no trade :)

totally agree m8, SC and maxxing everything has made cookie cutter specline and cookie cutter classes, how long will it be before the initial stats are going to become as important with ppl rerolling to get that extra 2 points of DEX or something.

also when was the last time you and your group got a drop, asked who needs, decided on who would have then pass the old item along to the next guy in the grp who can use. Infact when was the last time you did some PvE that wasent a raid or guild grp? For me Id have to say around the pikemen when lyonesse was full of ppl, i got some loverly symbol of loyalty ring :)

100% agreed...I want that feeling of joy when you get something special back in the game. Now IMO the random object generator has done quite a lot to redress the balance, some of the unique objects are really pretty damn good...but epics specifically should be killer armour, ALMOST untouchable.

And definitely non-trade-able.

I get asked a lot why I still wear epic armour. I did actually craft myself an mp set but when it came down to it...

... the epic armour is as much a part of Roo as anything else that went into creating the character over the levels and time it took to get to 50.

I might use an mp suit on Jink, but Roo will probably always be in epic.

Chodax is still in his Theurg epic after almost 14 months, I have a MP crafted suit in my vault but my epic looks so good that I keep putting off the order to have my suit spellcrafted.

I admire you for wearing epic armour Roo, i would still do the same but i often solo in odins stealther hunting (well more them hunting me) but i couldn't kill half the ones i do without having to wear SC gear to match them :(.

The sad thing is when i do hunt in an SI dungeon like Tur Suil with a few people, any half decent armours or weapons are just salvaged because everyone has their SC gear and has no need for the drops. I hate cookie cutter classes and specing, just takes away the fun and challenge of the game.

I know what you mean Hercules, although daoc is much more graphically enhanced and developed then the last mmorpg i played, it was still great passing down items to guild members on a guild hunt when something better was found :), that doesn't happen in daoc now...'hey i'll just craft you a weapon and sc it to your cookie cutter needs' ...no fun in that.

I like the random object generator, got some nice jewelly from Tur Suil that way :)

That is the plauge of Mid/Excal from what a friend who plays there has told me. On Prydwen/Albion any items you get from a Sidi hunt organised by TLW (They run 90% of the hunts) cannot be sold and can only be traded for items in the Sidi shop or for another Sidi item. Anyone caught selling items is banned from future hunts, it is a great system and has worked well for months. To get a full set of Sidi items should take dozens of hunts, it seems that on Excal too many people want to take the short cuts and are quite happy to screw realm mates over to get it.

Isn't TG armor is the new Epic?
I mean some of the things have really nice stats and procs and also comes with a design on them.

but I'd rather have just a hauberk maybe weapon, and crafted with melee health procs for the rest. ^^

Yeah, maybe the good idea would be to add one more epic, available at rr5, that gives out an advanced epic armors and requires several fgs to complete, would be fun :)

So, when dingdong RR5, the player can visit their trainer, and pick up a very hard epic quest, and upgrade their current epic suit to something that actualy is more usefull then just a farming suit?

exactly

but the basic epics should be upgraided too, so they are not just salvage junk compared to an average sc set.

Sounds good but you sure as hell won't use the first Epic armor all the way to RR5 are you?
Honest now .. ofc will you get that SC armor and weapon anyway right? =P or are you going to join DA BORING KILLING ALL ZERG to get to RR5 first?

SC maby made the game less fun but theres not many
of us that would use Epic armor over OC/SC armor to RR5.
(and after for that matter, if not new Epic is better your SC suit)
Maby for farming but not in RvR.
And all mages in Hib and Alb can atleast use robes so 5 parts can be SC and they still have that nice Epic look if they are wain.

Baahh don't know realy what i wanted to say more than if some
new shit turns up that makes you more ÜBER.
99% of us will use it no matter how or else keep use the SC Armor

Well thats my 2 coppers

I am all SC'ed but still use my Epic Hauberk for the look, use a Prince hammer and the golden disk brake shield. have maxed resists, maxed Dex and Con, about 70 strength and lots of power and hits, + skills to get me to at least 50 inc RR.

But then as a cleric, I only need +smite and +rejuv

IMO, if you done ur 50 epic you should be able to put the graphics on your crafted armour.

and not charge a fee for it, because we should be able to look cool and know who is a level 50 etc.

only use for level 50 epic armour now is if your poor and cant be assed making sc ed armour.

oh and selling it to some idoit who is level 40 and thinks hes cool.

How about:

When a crafter becomes LGM or whatever he is able to choose a style. He can then craft this style of equipment as well as bog standard style. These styles could be used to add a new "look" to armour and weapons, go faster stripes on a sword, Japanese style helmets, engravings on hauberks etc....

Crafters may only have say 10 of each type of these items in existence at any one stage......
