We are also fucked for the 2010 world cup as well as it looks like we won't be a seeded team. Going to be in deep deep shit if we are in the same group as say Italy and Germany or maybe Portugal and France or even Spain and Czech Republic................

I say get used to us not reaching any major tournaments for a fair few years to come, even if they make Jesus manager we are fucked.

Maybe the england team could enter the womens world cup/euro competitions?

It's not like they are not qualified as a bunch of pansies.

Maybe we should just support the womens team instead - combine 2 interests in one :p

I'm with you on that one, so sick of chucking one over my thumb while watching Rooney, the women would make a welcome change.

Group 6 - Croatia, ENGLAND, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Andorra.

We are so going to fuck that up :D

Croatia (obviously) and Ukraine are both good teams but fingers crossed and if we get the right manager we should qualify.

Rest of the Europe groups -

Group 1 Portugal, Sweden, Denmark, Hungary, Albania, Malta

Group 2 Greece, Israel, Switzerland, Moldova, Latvia, Luxembourg

Group 3 Czech Republic, Poland, NORTHERN IRELAND, Slovakia, Slovenia, San Marino

Group 4 Germany, Russia, Finland, WALES, Azerbaijan, Liechtenstein

Group 5 Spain, Turkey, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Armenia, Estonia

Group 7 France, Romania, Serbia, Lithuania, Austria, Faroe Islands

Group 8 Italy, Bulgaria, Republic of Ireland, Cyprus, Georgia, Montenegro

Group 9 Holland, SCOTLAND, Norway, FYR Macedonia, Iceland.

I fancy Scotland to make it through.

We should walk that group. But of course we should have walked the last one as well. I agree about Scotland, they've got a good chance.

England and Scotland didn't get into Euro 2008, because they're both pish. That's my 2p.

I wish I could say it would stop the commentators from going on at length about England, and indeed 1966; but it won't.

I think you're dissing your own country a bit much there tbh. You don't beat France home and away and the Ukraine if you're pish. Scotland had "The Group of Death" (TM) and they nearly made it. Scotland and Northern Ireland both have plenty of plus points to take away from the Euro qualifiers and work on, which is more than England can say.

Scotland were written off before a ball was kicked when they draw was made. But, as usual, we ended in glorious failure

However NI can take a lot away from beaten Spain at home and only losing 1-0 away. Beatn Sweden and getting a draw away and beaten Denmark.

If they can over come the smaller clubs in the group NI can look forward to the qualifying again.

So England are going to be appointing Capello as the next England manager sometime this afternoon by all accounts...

Interesting choice. Even more so that he cant even speak a word of English, thats going to make them passionate halftime teamtalks... Not so passionate i guess :s

I dont see why they moved so fast - theres nothing important for years and you'd think a senior managment appointment should be mulled over a bit.

Considering how fast the others have been and how badly they went I would have thought 3 months would be enough time to consider rather than knee jerk hire?

On the other hand, it gives him more time to experiment. It'll be interesting to see how English Premier league players adapt to his style, which is very Italianesque (e.g. if I'm being uncharitable, negative). It was the biggest problem with Sven's reign; he tried to instill the idea of shutting down the game and protecting a lead (typically Italian) and we were terrible at it.

he can communicate in english it would seem, just not fluently.

i don't think it's a kneejerk reaction either. he wants the job, he's an excellent coach, he's got a thick skin and if he can coach real madrid to la liga given their recent underachivement, i'm sure he'll do well with england.

Whilst his pedigree on paper is excellent, what you have to bare in mind is the squads he had at his disposal. They were all top drawer. He struggled with Milan once Van Basten, Gullit and Rijkard all started getting on a bit.

Did the whole of scotland blame Celtic for Scotlands failure to reach Euro 2008. Just seems they are the scapegoat for everything else, and the whole of scotland seems to dislike them
