Glasgow <-> Edinburgh possibly the easiest journey to make in Scotland. If you can get the train (from Queen St. station I seem to remember), it will dump you at Waverly station, right in the centre of Edinburgh and not far to walk to the pubzerg.

for accomodation - search on google for "edinburgh youth hostel" and you'll see about a million

most have maps so you can compare to how close they are (there's one on Cockburn street which is probably ideal... another on the grassmarket which is also close)

if you want something a bit less basic there's an accomodation search on www.edinburgh.org, although one person was having problems getting rooms in a guest house (they're busy due to a robbie williams concert on the 28th) there's probably stacks of rooms in the hotels etc.

After all it's not the festival yet

Beh, I need to work. The ferry from Zeebrugge to Rosyth is indeed 17 hours lol. It's quite a bit more north (just above edinburgh) than Hull you know Aaah the joy of sleeping on the floor of the tv room next to a snoring hairy fat biker can't be matched
