'Later this week there wil be a rather low key announcement that EA are officially dropping support for BF2; quote: "In preparation for the earlier than expected release of BF2142". Despite the public betas and extensive, and indeed very costly testing by DICE and partners, solutions to the outstanding and most notorious issues of BF2 post 1.3 have remained elusive.
Support for the game has dropped by nearly 50% since the release of patch 1.3 and ranked server rental by over 70%. With this in mind it is no longer feasible for EA to continue to support a game that has seemingly terminal problems the pursuit of solutions for which have run into a prohibitive area of cost.

EA gave a first sign of the imminent demise of bf2 by permanently closing all UK multiplay servers backed by its UK offices earlier this week, and by sending instructions to ranked server providers to wind down the service.
If BF2 end users will be disappointed by the lack of server support, the imminent end of EA's contract for player database storage with Gamespy may well raise tempers. EA's agreement with Gamespy ends on October 1, and as EA will use their own EA membership service to log player records for BF2142, the BF2 gamespy service will terminate on this date, meaning all current BF2 ranked players will lose all playing records.

The final BF2 patch release will be a new 1.4b patch, which will remove the log in screen function but as a small bonus will allow all bf2 players to have all unlock weapons ingame, hardly much reward for the hard work put in by the legions of let down bf2 fans.

Somebdy at EA has some hard work to do over the next few days, and the success of BF2142 looks even more critical than ever for the PC gaming crowd.'
r o f l !
BF2142 isnt even that good, definitely not buying it now since they will just do the same when their next release comes

I've been playing the Bf2142 Demo and it has very similar bugs to BF2, its a shame cos it could have been a decent game. Dropping support for BF2, was only a matter of time until this happend - forcing people to buy 2142 and keep there 'ranks' high.

People complain about the game and say how they won't buy it, 90% of people end up buying the game anyway... :(

i think they have made the new BF far too easy tbh, i personally only played BF2 over other games because of the "realism" in the vehicals

Well I was at a LAN event at the weekend, people mentioned BF2 and I think we had a few games but we ended up installing BF1942 (which is far better!)

BF2142 is very bugged to be honest, the Titans (which is actually a great game to play) have very bad coding meaning you can run or shoot through walls. Defence is also very easy as you only need Assault and Support (1 of each) to defend the ship. Using Joysticks is a real arse with the aircraft, very buggy controls with hours of tweaking required.
Sniper has been gimped also, the movement in the rifle even prone is terrible.

very much so for short (in comparison) periods of time such as LAN games, the titon concept is great for quick skirmishes.
But its the little things that annoyed me

does that mean ppl can get a full refund if they dont install it? i know some companies wont allow PC games to be returned, due to copying and using CD key etc

Not if you brought it from EA downloader, they refuse all refunds.

Not to start a big conspiracy, but the original quote from gmloki hasnt been confirmed as official. I wouldnt be surprised if it was just made up to freak people out. Afaik, EAs servers were still in full operation until recently, the 1.3 patch seemed to kill the EA UK servers but other countries, such as Germany and France, still had their EA official servers.

The dissappearence of the Multiplay servers was rather suspicious, but this happened a good 3-4 months ago, so it can hardly say it was in preperation for BF2142. I know that 1.4 is probably the last patch, but I wouldnt say that EA will simply forget about BF2 players now. Theres still 1000+ populated servers every night, seems like a lot to simple begin to ignore them :)

Oh and I think the thing about everyone getting unlocks is a load of rubbish too :)

That´s not relevant. If you disagree with the CoC or EULA and the information was not available ON the box, then you´ll get full refund.
The thing is, that many stores keep telling their customers the story of "software may not be exchanged" etc.etc. but that´s complete bollocks because they want to avoid the hassle (but it´s their job). That´s the law here in GER.

Not if you brought it from EA downloader, they refuse all refunds.

If that´s the case, then I would contact a lawyer.

You always have the option of breaking a contract/purchase if the product doesnt live up to what you could reasonably expect from it - and its not reasonable to expect to not be able to use it if you dont agree to let a third part company install spyware on your computer (if it didnt say you had to agree to this on the box etc). Just phone your local consumer rights agency (most countries should have something like this anyway) and report any store than wont refund you.

Well if server rentals dropped by 70%, i'd pull the plug too :eek7:

People take this as a "they throw sh*t at us!" when it probably has a just reason for it.

If it doesn't make money and threatens to cost money, it's byebye. It's how the world works.

There is no big conspiracy to piss off people "just because". They have a business to run and they have the right, which all people playing agreed on, to terminate whatever they want. It's the same with each and every online game. Go read the coc and eula of DAoC with a fine comb and a pair of tweezers and come back with the results.

Don't forget, Multiplay are saying that they are multi-hosting all the BF titles, so the same servers for BF2142 can be changed into BF2 - depending on the CLAN server.

If all that bunkum is right - especially the marketing bit - I won't buy it for sure and I was going to buy the new BF - if all stats are lost as well from BF2 I will be a bit gutted but I didnt play it that much so not too bad for me - but what about people who play it loads - would be like DAOC rolling back servers to everyone being rr1 or something - what would happen with unlocked / wanting to unlock new weapons etc as well?

If they go down that route I will just go play CS:S some more and prob BF2 when I am bored - no doubt someone will mod a BF2142 version for it at some point as well..

Naughty EA :twak:

What people should be concerned is the whiney attitude they have towards companies, in each aspect of life.

"There a milk carton on the floor of the shop! Outrageous!"

"This bar doesn't have soapthingies in the urinals! Amagad!!"

"This game ocmpany isn't making loss to keep me playing! What the f*ck?!"

But i guess people have to whine 'cause gods forbid if things were good they might enjoy life ;)

EA were doing an ok job up until the 1.3 patch tho... then people started leaving in their 1000's. BF2 doesnt really need massive support beyond monitoring those who pad the scores or break the RoE. The 1.4 patch is a rather good place to leave things on :)

What about those ingame ads!?
It logs your Ip to see what country you are from and such for statistical purposes
It logs what ad's (INGAME) that you look at, and how long you look at them.
It uses the logs to display more of the same type of ads you looked at the most.

So beware.

GAME wont allow you to return PC games.

So if i bought the game from GAME and didnt agree with the this ad thing EA are doing then basically i'm stuffed with £20 (or whatever) out my pocket

I'm sure theres some law being broken there

GAME wont allow you to return PC games.

Like I said, I know the usual "no refunds for software" policy of the stores, but it´s definitely (at least here) NOT legal. They´re doing this to scare off the customers because it´s a lot of work and hassle for them to send back the (opened) copy to the distributor and claim refund etc.etc. And most stores tend to avoid that.

If something like that happens to you, just insist and - as Fana said - contact your customer rights agency.

Ignoring the fact you completely missed the point,

if people didnt have a "whiney attitude" as you put it,
then you wouldnt have 90% the consumer rights you have today.

But im sure you would prefer to "enjoy life" and not exercise those rights which have been won by those with "whiney attitude's" next time you get screwed when you purchase something in protest of said people
