Like I said, I know the usual "no refunds for software" policy of the stores, but it´s definitely (at least here) NOT legal. They´re doing this to scare off the customers because it´s a lot of work and hassle for them to send back the (opened) copy to the distributor and claim refund etc.etc. And most stores tend to avoid that.

If something like that happens to you, just insist and - as Fana said - contact your customer rights agency.

Q: Can shops have a no refund policy?

A: You're entitled to a full refund if you return the goods soon after purchase.

At the end of March 2003, the rights available to a consumer who buys faulty or misdescribed goods changed. A consumer who buys such goods is entitled to a full refund if he/she returns the goods soon after purchase. Otherwise the disappointed consumer is first and foremost entitled to have goods repaired (free of charge).

If repair is impossible or would cause significant inconvenience to the consumer, a consumer is entitled to replacement goods. Where goods can't be replaced, a dissatisfied consumer is entitled to an appropriate price reduction or refund (reduced to take account of wear and tear). A 'no refunds' policy couldn't prevent this.

Where goods bought by a consumer have been misdescribed, or are defective it's a criminal offence for a shop to advertise a 'no refund' policy. Consequently, if you do encounter this practice, report the shop to the Trading Standards Department of your Local Authority. Trading Standards may then decide to prosecute the shop owner.

Thats their problem though not yours, as a consumer it should not effect your rights.

Sparx, I'll lend you a little expertise as I used to work in GAME :) Basically, insist they give you a refund on the game, despite it being opened, due to the user agreement contained within the box. If they go on about the CD key issue, ask them to phone up EA's UK branch to verify the CD key has not been used (They;ll huff n puff but this is the way you can prove the CD key hasnt been used)

Also, tell them that there were requirements inside the game box which were not advertised on the outside of the box, hence you did not have all the information as to making an informed choice of whether or not to buy the game. Their main weapon against the PC owners is that PC requirements were on the box, and its our duty to make sure they work, so in cases of agreements inside the box, this doesnt really hold.

Failing all else, find a nice table edge and give your disc a nice scratch, then return as faulty, while smiling nicely to the staff!

Ignoring the fact you completely missed the point,

if people didnt have a "whiney attitude" as you put it,
then you wouldnt have 90% the consumer rights you have today.

But im sure you would prefer to "enjoy life" and not exercise those rights which have been won by those with "whiney attitude's" next time you get screwed when you purchase something in protest of said people

I didn't miss the point, i brought in my own opinion.

People should "whine" when they get wronged, but these days, because of those consumer "rights", you got wankers in the US suing companies because they microwavedd their cat and winning. It's not bad that there are rights, but sometimes things are ridicilous and QUITE A LOT of people think they have the right to whine 'cause of the way the world is. When it's basicly a baby wanting his bottle.

What i would like for people to do is try stepping into another persons shoes, like a big CEO of EA. Would YOU make a profit or have the "i love my people, i shall take a beating to make my people smile".

But...guess it's just the peoples way to whine at the closest thing wihtout a thought of if it's really their fault.

By the way, what was your point? That you were hasty, wrong and accusing without a valid reason just 'cause someone cried wofl?

So the thread starts off to inform people of what i took on good faith being true, is all of a sudden a consipracy theory about how big companies ar eout to piss people off.

. <- the point -> you

- spam -

Epic Games and Blizzard to name 2 manage to make a profit and keep the player base happy, its not as "impossible" as you seem to think it is.
It would be relatively stright forward to move their game stats onto Gamespy, seeing as all the accounts are created on the Gamespy network anyway.

That you were hasty, wrong and accusing without a valid reason just 'cause someone cried wofl?
This rumour spread to various "reputable" gaming forums, it originated on EA's very own forums where the mods did nothing to repute it (and still havent afaik). I took it on good faith that mods would deal with it if indeed it was wrong (which evidently it is, which is why i posted the follow up as a update)
But a valid reason as any to share this knowledge with people who play the game
If you brought yourself down to earth, it wouldnt be particularly hard to figure that much out rather than aimlessly spam in post you very obviously have no interest in
By the way, what was your point?
Pretty simple but seeing as it flew straight over your head,
that peoples stats were going to dissapear so it may not be in their interest to invest in BF 2142 as it is likely to happen again

The fact that i followed it up with a post as soon as i found out it was a hoax, i.e. a mod appeared kinda kicks your whole argument that i was looking for an excuse to whine into touch

You however seem to have a permanent chip on your shoulder judging by your rescent posts picking arguments

You can only play the multiplayer, unless they've changed the demo.

Chronic,

Since you start getting personal with comments like "spam" and "you miss the point" and "you've got a chip on your shoulder" etc. i'll stop this discussion right now. Chill a moment dude and lookat my post a second time, maybe you'll notice i wasn't attacking you even if i quoted you.

I don't have a chip on my shoulder, never have, i just say what i think and what is my opinion. If anyone else HAPPENS to be on the other side, so be it. I'm not spamming, i'm just discussing things that seem relevant. Just 'cause SOME forum guy decided i "turned" grumpy and "different" because i wasn't going "blu blu blu" all the time, doesn't mean i'm attacking everyone.

I wasn't saying anything about a conspiracy theory being there, i said it's NOT there, by which i meant that people don't take a moment to look at the other side of the coin. In ANYTHING. People are selfish and that's fine by me. And that's a FACT. Noone does anything without personal gain. Just because Bliz and others succeed, doesn't mean all games will and IT IS NOT that simple.

But if you REALLY want to discuss your original post, which you countered allready, read my original post(which you seemed to miss):

Well if server rentals dropped by 70%, i'd pull the plug too :eek7:

People take this as a "they throw sh*t at us!" when it probably has a just reason for it.

If it doesn't make money and threatens to cost money, it's byebye. It's how the world works.

There is no big conspiracy to piss off people "just because". They have a business to run and they have the right, which all people playing agreed on, to terminate whatever they want. It's the same with each and every online game. Go read the coc and eula of DAoC with a fine comb and a pair of tweezers and come back with the results.

See now?

You just decided to pick apart MY follow up.
