Considering getting BF3, but since I've been looking around the tinterwebz, there's places saying to boycott it since it is practically spyware...

Anyone heard anything more about this/EA's reaction/If it happens in other software etc and people are over-reacting?

You are an idiot if you boycott this because it's spyware..

I bet most the idiots who are boycotting have a facebook account and other things like that.

This is what I mean.. Im just looking at it and thinking, perhaps other companies have done this in the past, but have been more secretive about it, surely it's just as bad as you buying a game from Steam for instance, because that means they could log your CC details?

I know EA is a shit company, shit shit shit shit everything, I honestly realise ( no sarcasm intended) but end of the day, I wish to play one of their games, because tbf, BF2 was fucking ace, so I wanna play it, but should Origin be such a turn-off that I don't buy it, that's my question.

No it shouldn't. Pretty much all the "OMG IT'S SPYWARE" crap plastered over the internet is based on a worst case interpretation of a EULA that has since been changed.

Classic internet, someone asks a question, immediately they're an idiot.
I'm not calling him an idiot, I'm calling the people who boycott is idiots.

EA always underestimate how popular their software/games are going to be, same happened with BF3.. Origin will be better than Steam within 18 months though really...

I really doubt that, to the point where I'll put a bet on it with you if you like?

As soon as EA step up and offer more big name publishers more cash for exclusivity on Origin, Steam will plummet fast..

It's not like they don't have the money.. and that's been their plan all along, most game developers from what I have seen in fact dislike Steam so will change ship quite easy.

But yeah, I will continue using both.. one thing which worries me about Origin at the moment is the prices of games, bit over the top on some of them, but meh..

People have to realise Steam was a pile of shit when it released, took them years to get it right.

Since this game is meant to be set in the modern day, I'd say the pilots are pretty fucked! ;)

Sources? I think you will find most like it. It cut's out nearly all their post production costs.

lol @ the steam stuff

it took it a while to get good, wow you think ? first proper online content manager, who would of thought it needed tweaking
they do a lot of indie stuff, so have a solid base of devs who support them
most of the big publishing houses use it, along with all the other ones (D2D, GG, etc) cos it saves them the setup costs

you really think ActivisionBlizzard are going to use EA stuff ?
lol ?

they will have a niche for Sims stuff and other EA things and i think will remain an "also ran"

The main one I can remember is http://notch.tumblr.com/post/9550850116/why-no-steam-notch I have also seen quite a few other developers moan about it.

They restrict quite a lot of things for developers etc, Steam is great yeah, but Origin can be far, far, far better, easily.

And all EA has to do to get say.. Call of Duty on Origin is offer them a big fat wedge of cash and they will follow, money talks.

I check the publisher of games I buy these days.
EA makes me pause to consider, "Do I *really* want this game?" before deciding whether or not to buy it.

I've got 4 EA games on my account. Mirror's Edge, Brutal Legend, Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2.
2 PS3, 2 PC. My problem is do I get ME3 on PS3 and lose my save game capability, or get ME3 on PC boxed retail and carry on the game I started in ME. It's a tough decision which I've not made my mind up on yet.

I think Valve are a good company and that Steam is a great utility.

I notice you dont appear to have notice my offer of a bet about EA vs Steam Keitanz?

Money talks! they don't really seem to hate each other that much....

If anything, Activision are a bunch of idiots and out of EA and them, they are the biggest money milking company, they would take all the money from your bank account if they could.

What in the name of flying fuck.

Someone actually doesn't like steam and things the EA run alternative has a shot at being anything other than awful?

Did I pass through some sort of transdimensional portal when I exited the shitter?

What a fucking retarded post you have here.

Notch basically says "Steam is epic but I don't want to give my audience or a cut of my monies to them". At least that makes sense, he doesn't need to be giving anyone a cut as he's only got one hit title and that could change at any time. EA on the other hand could have put more effort into working shit out with Valve. It's not like Valve haven't changed their minds before on stuff. If Valve were so awful, nobody would put Steamworks into their games... oh, but wait, they're not awful so they do.

Fucking trolololololololol.
