See if you can get your hands on a pieoneer 106D OEM. They retail for around £95 in some small independant comp shops. Make sure its OEM, Some places charge up to £300 for a boxed retail. Ok you don't get any fancey cd's with software on it. But they got that kinda stuff on the internet i hear ;)
Its a 4x -+ writer and a cd writer to. Never came across a dvd media it wouldn't write to.

Thirding the pioneer 106 - though don't stick toast in it, it won't write to that.

Hi there

If you go for the Pioneer drive you should be able to pick one up for around £84.99 from eBuyer or Dabs.com (inc. VAT, exc. delivery). The drives are also available in black, if that's of any use in your circumstances.

Kind Regards

Also to add more to the "buy a 106d coz there great" post.

According to a Japanese A/V news site, Pioneer has demonstrated dual-layer DVD-R burning at the CES expo in Las Vegas, using the existing single-layer DVDR drive, Pioneer A06.

According to the article, Pioneer used only a modified firmware to achieve the dual-layer burning with no needs to modify the hardware itself at all. But only time will tell whether the company actually decides that it is such a great idea to allow consumers to upgrade their drives to dual-layer by simply switching the firmware and not buying a new drive..

And as someone pointed out, theres cracked firmware out there that do this now. :)

Edit. A06 and 106D are same drive ;)
