I don't think i'm a "good" driver, but i can drive. Stop making things up.

I am talking about the advert still, the message hasn't changed. You're saying the same thing, shit drivers are the problem. Could you, in your infinite wisdom, tell me what i'm arguing against?

They shouldn't concentrate on this kind of shock-tactic, but instead use the money on something sensible. Make the commercial fun, entertaining etc and you reach a lot more kids.

Hell, why not use the money spent on the advert to buy many MANY kids hands-free equipment to their new car.

Being able to drive isn't the point - legally it is whether you are deemed responsible enough to do so. In the eyes of the law minors aren't responsible enough, those who have yet to prove their responsibility (whether they are or not responsible) can't because they have not been tested. Those who have drug/drink driving or too many road infractions to exceed their points limit are also considered too irresponsible to drive and have their licence revoked for a period (and usually at least in the UK have to go on a corrective course when they do get back on the road). Under this definition I and the Uk government at least consider texting & driving irresponsible and therefore the advert attempts, as a preventative measure, to prevent people from causing infractions which may result in theirs or others harm or death. Under this premise it has nothing to do with being 'shit'.

Surely if was about bad drivers (which i'm not sure it is) do we make driving tests harder across continents? Maybe we include texting & driving in the tests? I see your point on distractions but I do wonder if this might end up with a 'where do we stop cow-towing to phone companies' mentality or just consider plain common sense.

I do think shock tactics work better than 'fun' adverts - 'fun' adverts discussing serious issues I don't think ever make much of an impact. Also, if we buy handsfree kits for cars, surely we must buy all safety equipment for bikers, both motor and pedal, and hey, why not the extra safety features such as paralell bars and all the other safety gizmos which still aren't standard in all vehicles? It's a hard one to say where you draw the line, so drawing it at a total ban makes it much easier for both enforcement agencies and government policy.

To be honest from what i've heard, UK driving tests NEED to be harder and longer. I most likely could pass the UK test(driving wise) on a first go, yet might have some difficulty in say, Finnish test. I only WISH driving tests were about responsibility. Seems these days they are mostly about knowing not to hit a cone and knowing the alphabets.

It is about bad drivers in the sense that i've been saying, location, timing etc. Good drivers can multitask as they don't do it in stupid situations. If you check your mobile in a situation where the next two seconds cause you to crash, you're not a good driver.

The commercial idea is good, but it's the wrong way. Too long and too filled with shock value. Go against texting, but go against it in a sensible manner, not just "text and die!". Especially since young women are the easiest to get to, yet this commercial will make them turn it away, 'cause they are young women. So it's kind of counter productive.

About buying the equipment, sure it wouldn't make sense to buy it in all and a lione is somewhere, but the point was that using the money to buy SOME equipment would've made more impact then that over-long shockathon does.

I agree that possibly the UK driving test used to be too easy but not really so now - there is some promise in a scheme that's started here which is partly state funded whereby kids learn in school through a series of courses about road safety that ultimately ends in them taking their test. proving they have successfully finished the course (and the testing and criteria are quite stringent) leads to a lower insurance cost and statistically safer drivers in the pilot version of the scheme.

The 'driving around cones' is not something endorsed here; UK tests do require the testee to drive along real roads for at least 30 minutes. There are 20 routes per test centre so the routes are quite varied. In that test they must also 2 out of three maneouvres - turning in the road, paralell or reverse parking, or reversing around a corner. The emergency break procedure was part of the test, but that was before ABS which is now standard on all EU-certified cars (not considering the eastern european ones which will be added to legislation and have to get themselves up to spec) and so now slamming on the breaks will not result in a dynamic skid that could have happened in the past.

As well as the practical test they must complete a multiple choice theory test and a video-based hazard perception test in one go - the pass rate of the combined test is 43%. This doesn't suggest it's that easy and affirms that people are kept off the road. And they must pass this before being allowed to take their practical test. Also in the UK the age to drive is being raised to 18, so if anything we're getting more stringent.

There is a difference between checking your phone and texting. One definitely requires more concentration that can't really be compared to say, taking a drink or turning on the radio, although there are proponents who wants drinking (non alcoholic ofc) and smoking banned as well.

In terms of the advert, I see what you're getting at but if someone doesn't like an advert they click away; that's the nature of our world today. This advert I think encapsulates more what you're considering about 'entertaining' if not 'fun' about driving, even if it's not limited to texting:

YouTube - It's 30 for a reason road safety advert

And this one, which isn't about the drivers, but the victims (soz for the poor quality):

Camera phone road safety advert | Car Video

It's worth noting that the video we watched wasn't pushed out to the whole of the UK and didn't cost that much - Gwent Police in Wales had a massive text driving accident problem, and they enlisted a local school to put the point across using members of the school. It's horrific, and I don't think anyone would forget it if they saw it. It is overlong imo too, but it has impact like very few videos I've ever seen.

This one of those, and I swear, this is why I always belt up in the back of a car, I can give my life away, but not take anyone else's:

YouTube - United Kingdom PSA: "Belt Up In The Back"

I think maybe to government have tried so many tactics. Shock and awe works, as does the big banstick and massive if you're caught using mobiles or not wearing belts.

.

Where does this seem to be the case?

Nothing in my driving test came anywhere near as being as simple as this, except maybe the vision test.

& i honestly dont take kids seriously, young adults like you are so LoL. is that bleating i hear from your lips ?

give as many "stats" as you want - SHIT DRIVERS WILL ALWAYS BE SHIT DRIVERS. take away texting & be 100% sure they will find other ways to kill themselves or others, its just the way of the world

First off i lose all respect in your opinion feeling the need to say you dont know cause you are a child. Fair enough you may have been driving for 20 years or whatever but that doesnt mean to say you are the be all and end all

Whats the largest thing youve driven? im going for my PCV to drive 12 tonne vehicles

And where do you live and drive most often? out of curiosity?

could you also state why the test needs to be harder and in what way making it longer will achieve anything. in what way could the test be harder?

The point is good driver or not if you check your text for two seconds and someone else is not paying attention you can be at fault for an accident and possible life ending incident.

In your own example above every possible distraction is ok and your a good driver as long as you don't crash when your distracted.

Shock tactics works trying denying it all you want, it gets the message across. Keep on pretending you know what a driver has to go through on a day to day basis and how you can tell who is a good driver or not.

As for you passing the uk test on your first go, with your eyes closed, while getting a blowjob and writing a book, go fuck yourself. The instructor would see you coming a mile off, they deal with your kind everyday and the get a big massive X next to the is this guy a penis box!

First; kiliarien, those videos are a lot better and thanks for the update on your license stuff. Bit oudated info on my part and it is mostly hearsay from UK peeps who think most of the drivers out there re twats and shouldn't have passed their test.

Especially thought the 30 for a reason advert was excellent.

Also more understandable that it's a local advert(original post) and made by local people, makes more sense really.

could you also state why the test needs to be harder and in what way making it longer will achieve anything. in what way could the test be harder?

This is to the other "it is proper hard" people who posted also;

As i said above, i did hold an outdated view on it. If it's better, good. Longer tests, more driving etc would ofcourse produce better drivers. More training = better at stuff.

The less the tests pass, the less bad drivers there are and the less accidents there would be.

Your overexaggaration and "you don't know" aside, especially on the last part;

You may not be a good driver to not crash while being distracted, but you certainly are a worse driver if you do.

Shock tactics work, but this is too long and too direct.(though the local part explains it).

A problem here, some people do their test excellent, then when they get into the car alone they fuck it all up by doin other stuff.

You might be the world best driver, but when you get hit by a texting idiot that ran a red light at 90 that wont help you everytime..

when you go over a certain speed, most people will never have time to react to whats happening.

Me and my dad was lucky 2 weeks ago.

And when driving down a straight road all alone, you'll never know what might come running out from the side of the road, a cat, a dog, or some other smaller or larger wildlife that you missed to see. And if you are texting then, thoose 3 seconds may cost you your life.

Ofcourse i'm not saying that someone running a red light due to ANYTHING is good. That's moronic and like said, bad driving.

Perhaps, PERHAPS, texting and cd changing (etc)should become a driving test requirement, also put three screaming kids in the back and a nagging wife in the front, then throw the guy on a watered down traffic circle. If he passes that, he's ready :D

Nah,
most people in the real world arent as analy insecure.
Following an FH argument is like watching a bad WW1 trenchwar reenactment,
it hopeless, endless, painfull, and at times down right mind boggling dumb.
