And think about it logically even if you are fiddling with the radio your attention has strayed away from looking out the window.

look at it without the car, you have to sit in your bedroom looking out at the main road, now your task is to count every red car that goes by in 3 hours. Now the first hour you are only looking out the window. Now someone gives you a phone and tells you to have a text conversation at the same time. I guarantee you will miss at least one car when you are looking away, that car could be a child who ran out to get their ball

Im not saying that. What people are saying is its wrong to text and thats the whole point in the beginning which you started arguing against.

I drive one handed, but i know if something happens infront of me i can react quicker if i am looking out the window than looking at the phone

Please stop veering off course from your original arguement. This is what people are talking about, your veering away from your original statement to prove your right which you arent

Right, my original point then;

It's stupid drivers, not people texting that cause problems and in that context, this tv spot is silly.

FYI; people aren't just saying "texting is wrong" here. Ofcourse it is.

Even on just texting, good enough drivers can text and watch out the window too. I text and walk in the middle of the city in rush hour, it's not that different attention wise.

You're too hung up on the notion that texting means that you're staring down at your lap. think about HOW you could text safely and you'll get the point.

And think about it logically even if you are fiddling with the radio your attention has strayed away from looking out the window.

You can't use that without answering my "oh so bad" veering of topic.

But for the common good, i'll just drop the subject.

Carry on without me and if you feel the need to flame more, go ahead.

lol toh, Ok think about it this way toh. In the UK its illegal to be using a phone while driving, so people will tend to keep their phones away from eye view while texting, that means on their laps. So its impossible to text and look up at the same time.

Anyway im not discussing this anymore, you honestly cant see your wrong so there is no point in trying to change your mind.

Didn't actually, answered it right after.

Wank less, your vision is going.

I'm not claiming to know better either, i'm giving an opinion.

Others seem to lack the ability to discuss things without resorting to insults or old cop-outs.

If you want to flame me, talk less shit and if you want me to readjust my view, f*ck off. You've put bullshit claims in eery post you've made.

Ill ask again what i asked CorNokZ;

Do you all drive without interruption, without changing CDs, without any motion to move your hands from the 10-2?

Hmm?

Didn't think so.

They're not incompetent if they don't crash, luck or not.

If they crash because of fiddling a phone while in a roundabout, they're incompetent.

We distinguish good drivers and bad drivers every day.

I haven't even begun to insult you - it's all been nice and polite until you clearly lost your rag. You don't 'discuss' you purposefully take a controversial line and argue until you're blue in the face. You are very very childish Toht; was this part of the reason you have no driving licence? Didn't make the mental age?? You said people don't stoop to insults and then do it yourself the very next line by telling me to f*ck off - and I bet you STILL don't see the hypocrisy and irony in your own rants.

(oh and btw everyone just so you know how grown up Toht is, he's nega-repped me TWICE because he's losing arguments and I won't stoop that low and do it back).

lol! just read this.
unless you walk at 30 miles per hour, there is quite a big difference.

How does that work then?

You can't be an incompetent driver and ride the luckwave forever.

If you do text-drive all the time, you will mess up.

Being a competent driver means you can do other stuff, because you know when to do it. That means, it'll be a cold day in hell when you're required to text on the spot.

lol! just read this.

There's a difference in mobility and what you might damage, but regarding paying attention, there's not that big a difference.

Talked with Sparx in PM and we had a lovely chat and reached a nice agreement, should do that more often.

having driven a car at 90mph and walked at 3mph in a busy street, i can confirm there is a big difference.

ingafwhatshisface explained it well earlier. in the car youre travelling 1.5miles per minute, walking is 0.05 miles per minute.
dont pay attention in the car for 10 seconds and youve travelled 0.15 miles v 0.005 miles walking.
therfore the further you go without paying attention, the higher the chance of something fucking up. sounds pretty reasonable to me.

in a car u have to stay in a lane, if you cruise out of it you could well die.

in the street you can walk along without looking and people will avoid where you walk

this aswell. i was driving once, more tired than i thought ill admit that. i had what they call a micro sleep for about 3-4 seconds at about 70mph, by which time id drifted right across into the bumpy line next to the central reservation.

we switched drivers then, but it proves not paying attention in a car is far more lethal than simply walking on a pavement.

There is a whole lot of stupid in this thread, its all coming from one person. Stop feeding him.

Every fucking thread, its getting old.

Edit, quick sums. At 70 MPH you will travel around 100 feet per second. Quite a long way. add to that the stopping distance (naturally it varies from car to car) but IIRC thats another 100 feet or so. 200 feet from incident to stopping. You really think its safe to text while driving?

idiot

Are you deliberately missing what i said?

I said in regards to paying attention.

in a car u have to stay in a lane, if you cruise out of it you could well die.

in the street you can walk along without looking and people will avoid where you walk

In the street, yu don't pay attention to traffic and get hit by a bus.

Lol this has to be the stupidest thing to ty and argue in favour of.

I'm not arguing in favor of it.

Just to clear it up ONCE again;

You really think its safe to text while driving?

idiot

I don't think it's safe, i think it can be done safely.

Add:

I haven't read this thread just the first bit but the whole thing is waaay too long and I got shit to do yawl so I'll just say phones and driving = v.bad medicene.

B2 was driving home a few years ago, his phone rang and he just glanced at it (on seat nxt to him), literally just a quick glance and BAM he rear ends a car that was infront of him without its lights on. Just those few seconds of distraction cost an aweful lot to get the damage fixed and he was pretty shaken up by it (said it was really loud and shocking) and it could have been a lot worse.

Take care folks!

You should maybe just stop posting in threads and resort to pm's :p You always seem to solve it that way!

Your initial comment was shit, as someone who does not drive you have no idea what level of concentration you actually need, you can't even have an opinion on it because until you have driven anything you do say is horse.

Changing the radio/cd looking at a passenger/texting/making a call/having a conversation are all things that can cause a driver problems. Anything that requires them to stop thinking about driving while they are thinking about/doing something else can cause an accident.

In the end it's these people who take the lives of others instead of their own.

The advert does the trick it makes people think about killing someone else, because of their own actions.

Noticed the same and will resort to PMs more.

Also i have driven cars, even racing, i just don't have a license.

The initial comment was crap, simply due to it beginning as a joke and me then tripping over a serious notion.

But, as the following will show, it doesn't really matter what i say since;

do you actually think that that comment makes any sense?

Do you think he realises safely is an adverb of safe? lol.

If they can't read something and actually think about it, it's pointless ;)
