Drumsticks

Atomic fireballs (yuck) are still around, but my favourite sweet ever is this:

I've only ever had 1 packet, I never heard of them again, they didn't taste very nice, I can't even remember the name of them, but they are my favourite sweet ever.

I think they were called Shockers, and in the packet you got 4 black balls about the size of a ping pong ball. It was the ideal thing to buy if 3 of your mates were around.

You give 1 ball each to your friends. 3 of the balls are fine, and taste a bit like liquorice. But 1 of the balls, is the SHOCKER, and is filled with disgusting, horrible stuff that tasted awful.

It's great to see whos gets the shocker :D

It's like the confectionary version of Russian Roulette

Amazing :)

I remember those. On a related note, a few years ago a friend of mine said "I'm addicted to Refreshers" (the tube sweets). Quoth I, "I've not had those for ages!". "Oh, try them again!" she said.

Cue a two year addiction to the feckin' things. I'd buy the 5-packs and eat the lot. Sheesh.

Sherbert Lemons - I used to love it when a hole melted in the har-boiled part, and you then sucked the sherbert out. ;)

Who remembers Walnut Whips?! Damn, I just remembered those.. I used to go mad for them! Used to buy one a day at one time. :)

Fruit Salads and Black Jacks were nice.. 1p each, if I remember. :D

I'm sure I remember those Atomic Fireball things.. wow, those were funny - you could barely fit one in your mouth, and when you got the nasty tasting one, you vowed never to eat them again, but of course you did.. hehe. ;) I also recall similar sweets, but they gradually got hotter as you sucked them, until your mouth was burning? LOL

Also, what was the name of those Chocolate covered toffee balls that came in a small red box? (They also did a couple of other varieties) Toffets, I think they were called? I was addicted to those. Whenever I went to the Cinema, I'd always buy a couple of boxes and scoff them during the film. Ah, Saturday Matinees. Those were the days..

Red Liqorish string/ropes.. lovely ;)

Not a confectionary as such, but they used to sell this in newsagents. There was a big craze in the 80's, and it was this plastic string - you got several in this packet, and you could make stuff like keyring holders by plaiting the strands together. Heh!

I remember them as Sherbet Fountains.

Anyway, this week I have been mostly eating Wine Gums. Delicious.

Yah, sherbert fountains were the licourish filled ones (*shudder* I hate licourish), and sherbert dips were the packets with the lolly and the sherbert. Much better. :)

Snort the sherbert man! Your ears fizz!

All this talk of sweets brings back memories of Midnight Feasts at Cub Scount Camp (LOL!). Well they were supposed to be at midnight, but you could guarentee that by 10pm you would find Fatty Smith eating his way through the Jelly Hamburgers.

Anyone remember the Jaw Breakers? Those insanely hard gobstoppers?

And they had cool flavours like "Super Sour" That absolutely and postively were the most sour things ever - or the "Chilli" Flavour that was so red hot it should have been illegal.
