They keep your socks(especially with halfhigh boots) from creeping down and under your foot while walking.

I went for the trousers, underwear, socks action simply because if I ever were to wear underwear it'd have to be over my jeans superhero stylee.

I can't stand the ball-restrictive stuff and being a generally clean person I have no problems with skid-marks that everyone seems to think I must have...

I just think that most of the civilised world doesn't know how to wipe their arse properly
