So being critical of someones moral philosophy should lead to death threats and violence.

Cool story bro.

Thats not my point. My point along with many others is why do this when you know that is the reaction? There is nothing to gain by drawing these pictures. Do you really think if we keeps doing this these people will drop their belief and just say "lol m8 funny pic"

So the question is not is the reaction they have wrong. It is when you know that will be their reaction why draw the pointless picture?

Yes thats nice and all, but.

If I was to draw a funny picture of you, I don't know, maybe with a bomb in your hat or something. Would you get all hysterical and shoutyangryface at me? Bearing in mind depicting them as violent savages is wrong. Really, they are civilised, they don't take to the street in a bloody rage at all, they don't call for the murder of innocent people ever, especially over some crappy picture!

No, because you are a normal human being, you haven't been brainwashed by hateful nasty little people. Fuck them, if they want to get all pissy over some stupid picture then they deserve all the ridicule they get.

My question is, why not? If they want to be unreasonable over a picture then that's their problem.

I get quite angry whenever I see Ant and Dec on the TV, doesn't mean they should be banned and it certainly doesn't mean random innocent people should start getting killed.

If you drew a picture of me i would not give a shit but that's not the issue. They do have a problem and after last year we know they do so why bother. To me the arseholes are the people who provoke them for no reason rather than the people that have a stupid reaction.

Actually its worse at the moment people are supporting provoking them because they no they will over react it really is like starving and poking a dog then wondering why it has a reaction.

Well you compairing "them" with a starving dog says it all really.

If a drawing offends you enough to kill people over it, you need to be a lot more then poked at tbfh. We're human after all soze, not dog's. Let us teach people to react like humans instead of religious dogs. If drawing a picture show the true face of the dog, then by all means, draw it untill they learn to ignore it and live with it.

.
again since you and many others clearly missed the point

Why not just mock the holocause while your at it, or maybe the veterans of various wars

After all 'if they want to be unreasonable over a picture then it is their problem' and to add sugar on top
'because you are a normal human being, you haven't been brainwashed by hateful nasty little people. Fuck them, if they want to get all pissy over some stupid picture then they deserve all the ridicule they get.'

Yes i am comparing the two, because the subject matter is of little to no relevance; it's the reaction that it gets from the people you are mocking. It deeply offends someone thus is not really the 'done thing', you (plural) are no better than the backward imam's who stir up this crap

context, look it up

As for your rants about Islam and Sharia law, nice try at derailing the thread

For once i totally agree with Raven & ECA.

Viva la difference mes amis :p

I would take a picture of ole mo' and make it massively viral. Have him on the cover of every magazine, every internet advert, every billboard, every tv advert, every trailer for every movie. Either world war 3 will break out, or soon they will realise what stupid fucks they have been. Its the 21st not 14c muslim m8s.

@Raven:
You´re talking about perspective a lot. Yet I´m missing that perspective in your arguments.

It seems to me that you´re using a lot of generalizations and simplifications to bring your point across. Sharia and muslim fanatics are bad etc.etc. Nothing wrong with that, because indeed they are, but it´s essentially the same as saying "the western civilization is evil because of the Abu Ghraib incidents". I guess (and hope) you wouldn´t want to be labeled and classified that way.

Back to the perspective: drawing that picture does not only target/upset/provoke the 0,1% of the fanatic muslims, it also targets and hurts the feelings of a lot of muslims who are peacefully taking that slap to the face, because they don´t resort to violence. But it still hurts them and their religious feelings. You/we might not understand it, but that´s our problem, not theirs. Being religious is a way of free living too.

In my opinion, the damage we deal amongst the mass of non-violent, openminded muslims by deliberately violating their rules, trying to make a point and excercise our "rights" against the small minority that we consider "fanatics" is much higher than the effect we´re trying to achieve.

And on a different note:
Isn´t it strange that some people here are trying to fight religion with almost religious fanatism? :D
I`m an atheist. Always was, always will be. But I´d never even think about trying to convert religious people or interfere with their beliefs as long as they don´t bother me.

The point is, their entire religion and the way they treat people is offensive but they don't stop it. Ant and Dec are offensive, yet they don't stop. The BNP are offensive, but again they don't stop.

If everyone stopped doing something because it offends someone then nobody would do anything, ever. Me sitting here with a morning cuppa browsing FH probably offends some nutcase that thinks I should be on my way to church or something, am I going to stop it? am I fuck.

Its a crappy picture, what on earth is so offensive about a picture? It's not even the subject of the picture they have a problem with, its any picture. They get upset even if its depicting him as peaceful, the context is irrelevant. A totally unreasonable complaint, especially when you look at the reasons behind it, their offensive religion and religious laws forbid it.

Its all about freedom of speech and freedom of expression, something which is abhorrent to Muslims. Like I said, if I want to draw a picture of Mohammed then I will do, if my doing so upsets some people who want me to live under their stupid rules then that is their problem, not mine. Its not as if they are forced to look at it. Thankfully we are relevantly free still.

As for the religion its self, I couldn't care less who they want to pray to, or anyone prays to but I don't see why any of it should control my life.

People are talking aout freedom of speech, perspective etc and yet are arguing a different point.

No one here is claimking that drawing mohammed should be punishable or that it validates actions.

No one is claiming that it's not your right to draw mohammed.

People are against this type of internet protected action which has no point, besides to cause a reaction. It has nothing to do with freedom of "acting like a wanker".(which freedom of speech is these days, an excuse)

People blindly defending it, simply due to the other side being muslim, have no different issues then the extremist on the other side.

You're all getting worked up and protest and need to do something OVER A PICTURE. You're no different really.

And raven;

If they had a "draw ravens mother having sex in any way possible" -day here on freddyshouse, would you be angry about it, or just laugh it off?

I wouldn't care because I wouldn't look at it.

Its besides the point anyway. They are offended by any picture, whether drawn in an offensive way or not.

It's not different.

Do you think people that draw on "draw mohammed" day are going to draw any picture, depict in good light? No, they are out to make fun, for a greater distress to the other party.

It's a targeted taunt and as such, drawing your mother fellating a goat would be pretty much the same.

Also, this is not about who gets offended about what, we know who gets offended and why. This is about people knowing that and deliberately doing so. That's not defending freedom of speech, that's making an offensive gesture on purpose.

You would still know that there's a thread where your mother is doing terrible things to donkeys, pigs and sticking an octopus down her fanny, and it wouldn't bother you at all?

No, probably not (I haven't actually looked as its not really very funny) Its a protest to point out the absurdity of it all. While /b/ idiots will have no doubt got involved, the point stands. Why should a religion dictate what I can and can't do? Especially when I have no relationship with that religion. There are religions that find homosexuality, or sexual relationships outside of marrage a sin (Islam being one) Does that mean we should stop that in case it offends them?

Sorry no, some crack pot religion is not going to dictate how I live my life or what I do, if my lifestyle or actions offend them then that's their problem not mine. Especially when its something at trivial as a bloody picture.

You need that perspective of yours now and listen;

If this "draw mohammed" day didn't happen, would you be forced to lose rights? No. Would you have a right to draw mohammed if you chose to? Yes. No one but your own government can take that away.

You have a right to live your life as you please, but you don't have the right to deliberately offend people hiding behind that freedom.

The moment you choose to act like a dick because you have freedom, that freedom should be taken away.

The picture seems trivial, to other people it's not. Drawing it benefits no one, as you said it's not even funny. This day doesn't benefit anyone, it just offends.

So, the question remains, do you think this day is a good idea?

Then again Ravens mother doesnt force the fanny law upon people or kill people in the name of her fanny now does she?

Neither do a lot of the people who get offended by this.

You see this is the point. They want any picture of Mohammed banned, whether its one of him carrying a bunch of fruit or just sitting reading the paper. They say its in some way offensive to depict him. The content of the picture doesn't matter at all. What better way of defeating a bully is there than ridiculing him?

Like I said, they throw a wobbler over a picture yet in extreme cases allow people to get tortured for things like homosexuality. Backwards motherfuckers.

And yes I do think its a good thing, it points out how utterly retarded they are for getting upset over picture of Mohammed (even a peaceful non offensive picture)

The benefit is showing how dumb people react over a drawing. Aslong as people get offended in such a manner over some picture, it is worth pulling their strings.

500 years ago you'd be burned in Europe over the same drawing about christ, today you'll hardly get noticed. Thats the point.

Madonna also hang on a burning cross on stage. To prove a point and make a statement.

So you think it's a good idea, to force your opinions and ways of life on them?

Now isn't that just the thing you're fighting against?

They aren't threatening your way of life, yet you saction it ok to attack theirs with this day?

Did that change happen over time, or by someone having a draw jesus day 500 years ago?

The benefit you claim, to show how stupid people are, is quite the opposite. You are showing how petty and vindictive you are, by organising a day JUST to make fun of another group of people.

None of you see anything wrong with it, yet you wonder why others can act so stupid. Could it be, that on the other side of fence, they see nothing wrong in changing YOUR way of life?

You want to draw a picture but I don't allow you, because it offends me.

Who does what here?

The sanction is not beeing allowed to draw what you want. That in itself is a threat on peoples way of life.

It happend over time, by people people who drew pictures of Jezus (in a certain context). This is why you have the freedom to draw (and do) what you want when you want it this day. Else we'd be still burning people.

So because i say to you, "i don't like you drawing a picture", that's a threat on your way of life and you must act accordingly and change, and at best remove my way of life?

Bit insecure i think, not to mention "nuke first, ask questions later" mentality.

What do you do if someone says "I don't like your shirt", punch them?

But it didn't happen due to insults and mockery. Maybe that's something you should consider when advocatnig for religious purification.

People are beeing killed over it or are threaten to be killed over it, so yeah i'd say thats a threat on my way of life.

It's not nuke first, ask questions later mentality. It's I can draw whatever I want mentality, because thats the freedom I have.

The shirt is a nice point. What would happen if my shirt would have Mohammed on it?

It did happen to insults and mockery. Guess you really never looked at art from the last 500 years or went to see a comedian l8tly?

erm. Actually I am defending my way of life. I am free to draw a picture of Mohammed if I want to, the same way I am free to take it up the bum, If I want to. the same way I am free to have sex with whoever I please. If we all stopped doing anything because its offensive to someone we would not get anywhere.

I feel this is going around in circles now. You want to stop doing anything that might offend someone, so I assume you will be giving up sex out of marriage, alcohol and just about everything else. You can't watch TV or read a book though as this action alone offends some Christians. Throw away all your possessions and live in a shed. Just in case something you choose to do offends someone! Personally, I will do what I like according to the laws of my land. Can we leave it at that?

You're not being denied to draw a picture. No threat to that.

Do you think drawing more pictures will change the mind of the people who want to kill you over it? Didn't think so.

So there's no threat and there's no point in the day, except as said before, ridicule from the sanctuary of internet. More fo the moronity that is the internet, nothing more.

The shirt was a good point, but it's not your point so answer it or leave it.

Actually, you're not as this draw mohammed day isn't defending anything.

You are blind though, as i stated several times that no one is claiming you shouldn't draw a picture if you wanted to, or indeed that you shouldn't have a right to it. By all means.

I also never claimed that i anted to ban offensive material, YOU defending offensive material doesn't mean i want it banned.

People are against stupid days like this that have no other use then to stir trouble.

I will defend my right to draw a picture of Mohammed (or anything else for that matter) if that means highlighting the utter stupidity of Islamic laws then so be it.

Tell that to a certain Danish cartoonist or to a now dead Theo van Gogh. Or the players and fans of the Danish and Dutch soccer teams playing in South Africa this summer.

Go and brush up on your art history and come back again.

Infact what did happen to people who said the world wasn't flat?
