this thread is funny and brings up a lot of interresting debate on modern culture. i didn't read a lot of it, but i doubt anyone pointed out that the phrase 'emocore' was coined in the 80s at an embrace (http://www.dischord.com/bands/embrace.shtml) show (embrace being the band that came after minor threat, before fugazi - you know, ian mckay, dischord records... all that). the whole emo/hardcore scene as it was has had it's hayday in the late 70s - mid/late 90s and still i guess has some roots in the punk scene of today - it's amazing to me how little this is recognised in this whole debate of 'emo' how it is now - my chemical romance, shit haircuts and all that rubbish. it's upsetting in a way but i guess it's not surprising seeing as we see so much other equally stupid things from the 'youth' of our society - che guevara t-shirts, anyone? sex pistols t-shirts in h&m? people who own crass t-shirts and know nothing about the legacy of one of the most important bands/record labels of all time.

all in all, i guess my point is that the modern conception of 'emo' is just another signifier of how willfully ignorant most people are, especially that whole 13-8 or so age group.

Whenever I go down my local club on thursdays it's the same stuff over and over with the emo/scene kids.

HOWEVER.

How the FUCK can you move in those drainpipes? I swear most scene/emo kids must have no penis, their actual groinal area is non-existant, is dropping in with this group a way of making up for the fact that they have no manhood or something?

Well fek, being emo is as good as wearing a suit, tracksuit, 80's rock tshirts, jeans, loose jeans, tight jeans, dress, man wearing a dress...and so on...

I'd rather dress as emo then wear a suit every day to work and think i'm something special while i look down at these "rejects" as some call 'em.

Idem, think it's somekind of Goth look-a-likes with suicidal tendencies?
Same with "Chav's" which would probably be called "hangjongeren" in Dutch.. not sure though.

Personally if it doesn't bug me I couldn't care less wtf they do, so unless these people are constantly throwing abuse and/or physically attacking people then I really couldn't care, no idea if Emo falls into that category but if they do I "dislike" them else I don't.

You must be living in a heavenly place, atleast in sweden the emo's are all over the place.

Emo is just another subculture of Heavy metal culture and as such is absolutely fine in my book. The great thing about Metal culture has always been it's acceptance of people who are different to the "norm" of society, unfortunately when it comes to Emo for whatever reason a small minority seem to have a massive chip on their shoulder.

Just reading the forums for Download festival or even on here will highlight people whom are extremely aggressive towards the sub set of people who's only crime is to like a slightly different type of rock music and to dress up in a slightly different way, in my opinion this kind of hatred has no place within metal culture and is more reminicent of townie/chav culture.

As such my opinion of anyone slagging off any particular sub set of people within rock or metal is extremely low and I'd lump you together with the arrogant and violent scum whom hang around the local Spar shouting abuse at people for no other reason than the fact they do not conform to standard steriotypes.

ps. I like emo because quite a few of the songs are pretty good and the emo movement is helping to bring more and more people into the world of heavy rock/metal music which can only be good for all the bands who will sell more records and propogate the creation of more music in the future allowing future generations to enjoy the greatest music type in the world.

Anyone old enough to remember the abuse people threw around at bands like Faith No More back in the late 80's early 90's because they didn`t conform to the norm of heavy metal? Or Nu Metal such as Limp Bizkit or Korn in the mid to late 90's that again didn`t conform to the standard steriotype, this is no different.

most deffinitely. not 'sex pistols' punk, i hasten to add. more like minor threat punk (see the post i made about embrace) and that whole d.c. scene of the 80s.

still, the people who get labled as 'emos' - i can't stand the fuckers either - these days, deffinitely are a sub culture of metal origin i'd say - the music they listen to is certainly more metal sounding than it is punk.
