Do not have permission to access device,Path or file

My Parents compute is doing something very strange. They have XP home

Any program that they try to run like Internet Explorer, Adobe reader etc they get a windows warning saying: "you Do not have permission to access device,Path or file"

How do I fix this??

I cannot access anything. i cant run user accounts or uninstall software or anything. I can't even open notepad!
All I can do is browse the hard drive!

Went into safemode and uninstalled Zonealarm and all works fine now...
Strange as it didnt look like ZA was running...

I had a similar fault with za. It was officially not running, but actually running in the background and blocking all sorts of things I was trying to do and not telling me or asking me to let programs through. Damn nuisance imho.

Exactly. It was somehow running in the background...
I no longer trust that product.
