The fact you have to manually identify the items before you give them to your pet to ensure maximum revenue made Torchlight in no way superior to Diablo 2.

Diablo 2's gold maximisation came with the blessing of having certain items dropping that were hugely superior in selling price compared to the alternatives. After playing the game to Act 2-3 you were aware of this.

On the other hand, Tochlights' items all sold for very similair values meaning instead of being decisive about what items to pick up, you picked everything up. Then you had to identify them if you gave them to your pet.
