from the logs I've seen and from the innacuracy of the game logs (max resolution is 1 second) and the complete lack of error correction used in analysis of these data, I can safely say I don't believe a word of any of it.

Until someone does it properly with a couple thousand casts and has a pingplot running so they can be 100% sure of lag issues, there is little point even looking at the results.

A quoted answer without an error is meaningless.

Well, the 1s resolution of the chat.log is not particularly important when you're running the test over 10mins or so.

Re: error. You can see it's there, although the reproducibility on the first set of tests is pretty high imo. Dunno if 4 runs is enuff to stick +/- error bars, someone with stats expertise would know that, I don't. I'm not gonna run the test 10 times for each data point or any crap like that, my intent was just to do a quick check, not to come up with a formula at the end.

One priviso tho', the NS test only has 200-300 casts as you run OP pretty soon NS (even grey NS is a 1x lvl spell), so I'd trust those figures less than the dam shield ones.

Im not convinced anyone has prooved that 386 doesnt cap yet, 368 certainly if you belive maels 2nd set of test, but hey we all knew that!

No need to work out different cast caps, as there is only one. Afaik the formula is something like... max (0.4,f(dex)) (where f is some unknow probably linear function) to find out cast speed multipier which is then multipied by delve to give acutal cast time. i.e. there should be a magic dex number at which all spells will cast for exactly 0.4 delve regardless of cast time. This can easily be varifed by comparing two greatly differing cast speed spells give any constant dex, the effective cast speed modifer would then be shown to be the same...

Not demonstrate conclusively i'll agree, but assuming that the previous information of a 40% of delve is the only cap, as maeloch last test appears to show, then it is certainly looking that 386 does not cap for base and spec nukes, the 2seconds NS spell didnt even reach the 40% of delve cap, so even allowing for lag then it seems unlikey 386 does hit the cap.

Regarding formulae, yup agree. The extra data would just help confirm it's a linear relationship, and help someone come up with F. Then just solve for castspeed.F[dex]=0.4

Just looked back at the data, does look like the NS is capping at the higher dex, and the 41% is just because of variation.

This is me casting a PBAoE spell witha 2.5 sec delve. There are 122 casts in 178 seconds for an average cast time of 1.45 secs or 58% of the delve so this is clearly not capped even at 417 dex and 10% cast speed bonus.

something is wrong:

you get series of cast going off within 1 sec of each other (log time), and then get 2 spells in a row that takes 2 sec to get off.

This should by no means be possible if we assume that the cast speed stays fixed and dont fluxate, so there is a lag issue there.

IE if spells cast at 1.4 sec like you say.

from the logs I've seen and from the innacuracy of the game logs (max resolution is 1 second) and the complete lack of error correction used in analysis of these data, I can safely say I don't believe a word of any of it.

Until someone does it properly with a couple thousand casts and has a pingplot running so they can be 100% sure of lag issues, there is little point even looking at the results.

A quoted answer without an error is meaningless.

We need 200+ spell casts for a 386 and 400+ template with capped TOA speed, then each test repeated 3 times. That should reduce your error to under 2%, and be verified by all 3 runs giving the same answers (within the 2% working error).

Ping is unlikey to play a part, as all spells would be delayed equaly and as long as they get to the server while the caster is still casting the last spell, then they should be queued up perfectly. But yeah its probably best to check your ping is under half a second for the test duration!

something is wrong:

you get series of cast going off within 1 sec of each other (log time), and then get 2 spells in a row that takes 2 sec to get off.

This should by no means be possible if we assume that the cast speed stays fixed and dont fluxate, so there is a lag issue there.

If I understood you right, that's because the log doesn't show milliseconds or tens of a second. So if one spell takes 1.4 to cast, then the first will show as xx.01, the second as xx.02 and the third as xx.04, though it would show xx.01.40 and xx.02.80 and xx.04.20 if it showed tens or hundreds of a second.

one thing to bear in mind is that spells might not actually be the delve they say...

a 2.5s delve might actually be 2.59s as the delves are truncated (not rounded).

a good baseline to compare against might be at 60 dex if you want to remove problems caused by that.
