What is it with these modern day magicians? I mean at least with the olden days you could see someone escape from a trunk or a straigh jacket and think, "wow, thats pretty cool." And also, there was always the chance someone would die. How can it have reached a point where people were getting into chained trunks and being buried alive and people thinking, "hey, he could die!" but whenever someone puts a gun to their head we think, "pffft, yeah, right, you do that mate." We need to return to Houdini, good rest his entertaining (yet over-enthusiastic) soul.

O.T guys... (unless this happened in the land of Midgard because of the U.K's strict gun laws? No....?)

I believed that a lto of what he did was to do with reading body language etc, obviously I've only seen him do things on TV but some of them I beleived he did without any dodginess.

However that was pretty disappointnig, very hyped which annoyed me. Plus the outcome all seemed too perfect. Fires on into his head very fast, fires another slower. Hes looknig pretty scared, goes to fire the third but pulls away and fires at the wall, its not the one with the bullet. He then sits there looking rattled for about 3mins not saying anything, then fires the 4th at himself, then the 5th at the wall and bang, thats the correct one.

If you were to try to choose a sequence that is believable, I'm pretty sure thats exactly how you would do it. You dont let him fire all 6 rounds, it makes it seem to easy. You dont let it go perfectly, but obviously he cant shoot himself, so he gets one wrong.

Still a lot more enjoyable to watch that most other TV programs.

Things like this don't usually bother me, I'm not sensitive at all to this kind of thing but even I was slightly nervous at points during that. It was quite well done but I am 99% sure it was all planned out from when they were drawing the pictures at the start. He deliberately made it look like he cocked up to add to the suspense, like BI said, it would've all seemed too perfect otherwise.

The whole thing with magicians is that they create the illusion that something could go wrong. The most impressive magician I have seen was some dude at my 4th birthday party.

I'd I have been more impressed with this show if he HAD blown his brains out. It would have shown he was at least trying.

Problem:

It all goes to plan, everyone says 'yeah great but we know its all fake anyway'.

It goes wrong, he blows his brains out, everyone says 'wow it was genuine, but he is a crap mindreader'.

Either way he looses.

I did wince slightly when he pulled the trigger the second time.

Yea...but I'd have more respect for him if he died trying to perform a trick than cheating his way out of it by using pre-arranged signals. But, like you say, its a catch-22 situation for him.

Duh, it's a trick, theres no freakin bullet in the gun till he fires it into the sandbag

Think about it guys, it's his gun, his bullet, both are specifically designed to allow the trick to work, how can you be nervous about something which is so totally engineered to be 100% safe.

It's like the old trick, catching a bullet in your mouth, I mean FFS!!
did anyone actually believe that the guy could catch the bullet, it was allready in his mouth fer cryin out, so fuckin obvious, but people suspend their disbelief for showmanship, the same people no doubt who believe in fortune tellers, yeah I can see the future and I'm charging 30 quid for it in a poxy flat.
If you could see the future, just 30 mins would do, you would rule the world.

Also doubt they'd let him go on live t.v with a real gun.. with real ammo.. and a slight chance he could kill himself with all them people watching :p

Indeed. If there was even the slightest chance that he might have shot himself, it wouldn't have been allowed on TV. The only reason it could be shown was because it was 100% safe.

Its perfectly acceptable for them to show the program, however they cant actually show him blowing his brains out on live TV, thats why the whole 'live' footage was on about a 20minute delay, what we saw on TV actualy happened whilst we were watching the bit were he selected the bloke who would load the gun.

So by the time it was shown it was 100% perfectly safe because it had already happened.

Anyway, I dont care :p I'd like to think that it was an impressive stunt (and as the BBC disclaimers stated it was just a stunt) where a man genuinely risked his life on his ability to perform illusions.

Its called the news, but they dont show it for peoples entertainement.

also if it was set up and the volunteer bloke was told to put the bulle tin a certain barrel and he put it in another, then that would be manslaughter, possibly even murder.

Or 'accessory to being a douchebag'. Either way, firing a loaded gun in an audience filled room is still pretty risky. Not sure any TV company would want to take that risk.
