Only playing a lot doesnt make one nerd, a nerd is someone that really doesnt have interest ti di anything else than play his comp. he also lacks social skills, and drinks Coca Cola

The term we use with my friends use is "Pro Data" (it´s a joke ) meaning that we use comp a lot but we also get out and party, pick up some chicks and so on, well you know what I mean

IMO theres different types / grades of nerd, heres some:

On IRC: Knows all the commands and has the biggest folder or scripts
DAoC: Knows the full mathematics behind game play including diminishing returns, caps for to-hit bonus, the exact amount of hit points each epic mob has
Computers: Has more than 2 monitors when surfing the web, called his missus "GF" in RL, cleans his mouse ball daily, prefers talking in chat rooms to pubs.
Work: Knows the full company policy on everything from Health and safetly to the storage of paperclips. Goes to the bog during his breaks or after work to save wasting company time, knows just how the boss likes his morning coffee. Wears a white shirt, dry cleaned, with a pocket protector and 1HB pencil and a blue and black biro pens.
Real world: Cant socialise after 9PM because his favorite documentary is on. Knows the real life names of all the characters in Neighbours from the last 10 years. Carries a needle and cotton "just in case". Asks for a shandy when you are ordering drinks. Drinks Lipton Ice Tea and actually enjoys it. Still have a record player and its still got "Abbas Greatest hits" on it.

Theres a lot more to them, but this set are just some of the ppl I know and have had the misfortune of playing DAoC or working with.

Well put, no one has the right to say they are any better than u, and that what u r doing is anything less worthy than what they r doing, people like different things, its the way the world is and hopefully they way the world will always be (if it changed then life would just be boring). People that follow other people and dont stand up for what they believe in are just sheep, but because they are unfortunatly the majority they feel that they are better than u.

And as for the original question, i dont think u can really put and answer to it as everyone will have a different description of "nerd" and what it stands for.

People should be proud of themselfs yes, within reason but if i had no social skills and no friends, didnt talk to anyone much, no self confidence, personally, i wouldnt be proud of myself.
I've been down that road and i was nearly a propper nerd, a good looking nerd but a nerd none the less, but i chose a diffrent path so i am mostly happy with myself
