only ones i saw were for 1.45 and 1.51, but i did an experiment the other night, if u change the line in the condig as if u were gonna use daox but dont load via daox, just use the normal daoc icon it works in window, but not very stable :-p

I must say it sadens me that daox seem to be layed on the shelf.
It was very usefull.
After all hours and hours of exp/rvr tend to get boring.
And being able to change tunes on yer player of choice, surf to some kinky pr0n sites and look at some Norse babes, were a nice diversion form every day daoc life.

I cannot say i think this as a cheat.
Certain other ways of communicating opened like irc yes.
but then again if that was the reason, they should take command over your phonelines aswell.

Another reason may be, that it was a 3rd party program that utilized the game.dll from the game in ways not intended.
So rather then leting a 3rd part improving their game, they nerfed their own game

Perhaps mythic could incorperate windowed mode built in.
the way of simply adding windowed=1 and running daoc is not the answer.
The game get very unstable, and tabbing out is a gamble indeed.

I hope mythic understand that there is a worldwide need for this kind of function in daoc.
Or people will get bored faster.

i asked l-c (who updates daox) if he was going to update daox for euro. he answered: send me the game.dll.

i sent it to him, but he cant put it somewhere since their host seems to be down.

I haven't used it either. Sounds handy but to many bugs so I have heard. Don't want my daoc to crash every minute.

if they managed to detect daox and ban ALL that use it theyd lose 90%(atleast) of the playerbase aslong as you dont tamper with the datastream they cant detect it (unless you say in any of the channels "d00d DAoX r0xx, im using it right now, its teh un-suq" .. or something)

i really dont understnd the way daox could be used to cheat... I already know many people online that use comms when playing Exping/RvR...

I kinda like the idea of comms in Daoc, would make it alot more fun, communicating with your group etc.

Although i know its not allowed

Just an idea for future patches

usually, you cant view/edit the process memory/data stream because if you alt-tab alt, then the process closes.

daox allows you to do both, if you were into making 'let hax' that is

of course bein able to play in windowed mode is a big advance and very useful, the problem is, that you are able to use third party programs when playing windowed or alt-tab is enabled.
thats why i mentioned Diablo2 for the closed battle.net was ruined by a wave of public hacks.
these progs included functions like duplicate items, create max level chars, switch from hardcore to normal mode etc.
due to people even pay loads of real money for accounts and items on online RPG´s theres also aways enough ppl trying to modify the game.
you sure are abled to operate over a network like you do on a single pc but it requires even more l33t skills

Being able to window would be good...

however it also means little l33t skr1pt k1dd13z can hack into the game (read: download a hack from somewhere) and just run it on their windows boxes...

The number of people with the hardware and the inclination (the latter being the less common) to sniff the packets being sent from the game and write a piece of software for it is that much less.

So I can see why mythic don't allow that option.

You can use comms in the background no?
At least I do that with tribes 2 when it's in full screen mode (not sure if the whole anti-alt-tab will stop teamsound or the like from working...)

they're not 3rd party programs which affect the game.. they're just other third party programs.
It's like having msn messenger run in the background just you might still be able to use your comms program.

DAOC can be run in windowed mode, daox frames daoc to be run in a actual "window"

It would be nice to get an actual view on this from GOA/Mythic.
to clarify things and clearly make it known to players how or if serious it is to use this "one" software.

Mythic is somewhat clearer but i still arent shure of the meaning.

Well to feel safe i went by the electronics scrap yard, stole a P133 from a dumpster adn set up a and set up a linux NAT firewall.
and is smurfing on my laptop instead.

Since u are not-guilty untill proven u are guilty...even telling to a CSR directly would not be enough to ban your account. Since u could easily claim it was a m8 or your brother playing a practical joke on u. Since Sanya ( public relations manager @ mythic) already stated that scanning people computers is out of the question it's unlikly they could detect it even if they were looking for it (after u were "caught" admitting it).

But anyways, it doesn't really matter what u or me thinks of it, Mythic made the dissision to disable the option to prevent ppl from using mainstream easily modified 3th program hacks.
Sure the hardcore cheater will find a way no problem, but atleast this helps to prevent the general public from using the most common cheats.

So is using DoaX considered cheating? Yes
Will they take actions ( (temp-)ban probabaly) against u if they somehow can prove it? probably Yes
Do a lot of people use it? Yes
Is it at your own risk ? Yes
Do most people who use it, do it to prevent from being bored waiting for porst / horserides / crafting or somethign else waaaaay to boring ? Y.E.S !!

Let's get 1 thing clear: There are programs around that can be used ingame and you don't need a windowed mode for it to work. Windowed mode should be allowed imho.

I got sent the DAoCx file via email from some guy called Stefan. I checked it out and found it to have the I-Worm Virus in it.

I do not need camelot to be played in window mode as I realy do not see the point of doing so. Just one thing I wish they would let us use is something like UO Assist where you could set up a crafting macro up that can make and smelt items while you go and mow the lawn.

Just my 2 bob worth.

You're aware that you ain't allowed to share your account with anyone, right? Hence, even if it was someone from your family or a friend pulling a (bad) joke, you'd just be guilty of another violation of the CoC/EULA.

Personally, I don't like what this program is potentionally capable of... As an earner poster stated, it's easy to see which an impact a couple of hacks can have on a game, Diablo2 is one of these getting these - and I quit it personally, mainly because of the hacks, it wasn't enjoyable nor worthwhile spending alot of time on a character, just to have it killed by some teen punk who think he's so darn cool, because he knows how to double-click on some silly icon or whatever...
