I actually agree on the crossfire, a bit, it is horrid in pictures.

But, here's the kicker, when you see it live and you see the size and hear that engine... You just want one. It's a beast really...an ugly...growling...straight from saurons arse..beast.

As a personal disliker of Audis, I think that looks fucking hideous. It's the old A3 behind a shiny and deeply crass grille. No idea how it drives as I haven't experience one, but in the only group test that I've read that it featured in it came second. And I still don't see why it's woth an extra 6 grand over a Golf GTi, and it's definitely not worth more than 600 quid over a 130i. Hmmmm rear wheel drive hatchback with individual styling and a 3 litre striaight six in it, or a poshed up all-wheel drive Golf with a hugely turbo'd 4 pot and the same styling as the last model?

Probably a good car yes, but an interesting car? Not in the slightest. You'll probably like it, but will an emotional bond be formed? More chance of you powersliding out of a corner on opposite lock.

The 130i, and all the other six-cyl cars I looked at, including the R32, have a big problem - C02. If you live in London as I do, band G cars are going to be a fucking liability from next year. There isn't a more complete combination that's not going cripple me on tax/congestion charges, apart from a couple of rather more expensive diesels like the 330d coupe and the A5 3.0. As for looks, eye of the beholder innit? I prefer it to the Golf, inside and out.

Must admit I quite like it.
Far better looking than anything Merc or BMW have anything to do with.

Aren't cars from before 2006 excluded from the bandings?

From the car tax, yes, from the proposed congestion charge, no, and besides, I have to get a new car as part of my company car allowance deal, otherwise I'd probably have bought a second-hand M3.

back on topic, pished myself at tonight's episode.

Audi R8 owns.

But try this for size:

If Porsche put the 3.8l 355 bhp boxer from the 911 Carrera S (or better still, the tuned 3.8l 415bhp boxer from the GT2) into the mid-engined Cayman layout, that would own the R8... but it would also own the 911 range damaging sales and be cheaper; and this is precisely why Porsche can never truly build a rival to the R8 without shooting themselves in the foot and making the 911 nearly pointless. Additionally, the four wheel drive Carrera 4s would have probably been a more fair comparison.

I think Porsche would admit that themselves.

I'm waiting on the BMW M1 replacement with a mid-engined affair with the 5l 500 bhp V10 from the M5/M6.

There'd hardly be much point in Porsche building an R8 rival; a. because they're now the major stakeholder in VW, and likely to take control, and b. because they already have a mid-engined 911 rival they deliberately keep underpowered in the form of the Boxster/Cayman.

Long may the upsetting of TG continue.

I have a Porsche Design golf towel that I bought in Beverly Hills, I feel like a geek now.
