I have just returned a busted telly to Amazon, they have refunded me the cost back onto my credit card (first time I have used it in years).

What I want to know is if I use said credit card (Halifax) at a cash machine to withdraw the £545 credit that is on there will I be charged or is there any downside to doing this seeing as I am actually in credit and therefore not *lending* on the card?

My balance shows -£545.

Any advice appreciated.

They'll still charge you for a cash withdrawal. I think you can transfer the money back to your bank account without charge though.

Yes mate I expect they will charge you for a cash withdrawal but you need to check your particular terms and conditions to be sure. As you're in credit there obviously wouldnt be the issue of higher interest.

Credit card companys hate people being in credit by the way. If there's something you want to buy in the meantime might be just as easy to use the card to pay for it?

You could get half a night with Rooney's young prozzie for that £545, or a full month with the grandma he was shagging!

I would check with them Trem, I'm not convinced that would go uncharged. They may prefer to "refund" that back to a current account.

If you get charged for normal cash withdraws (which I assume you will do) you will get charged for this.

Its a credit card, they are there to make money off you, somewhere in the small print they will have covered their arses.

That is exactly what they have done, I rang them up and told them my card was destroyed, which it was......by me, and asked for another before worrying about the initial question. The lovely girl then offered to transfer the money into my current account without me having to say anything.

Thanks for the answers lads but for once, and I mean that, for once Halifax have given good customer service.
