Quick question, what is the absolute max you fine fellows would let your CPU run at temp wise underload? I mean the absolute max before you thought "fuck me I best turn this off"

usually a cpu will turn itself off before it dies

They have inbuilt thermal monitors afaik

but i guess these day s they get up to 60 degrees or so before you start to notice more than that to worry

ever since I swapped over to this new case mines gone upto 70-72c underload, the airflow in this case is terrible but it has sound proofing so there is virtually no noise coming from it, everything seems ok/nothing is lagging/freezing/monging out and I can't smell burning or nowt + reviews I read said temps with this case are naturally high due to the poor airflow.

what do you reckon?

I reckon it'll be fine, although I cant vouch what'll happen when Summer comes around.

Yes I got that, it was more an exclamation of wtf are you doing to make it run that hot.

Read above, its JUST the case i've changed, before it ran 54c maximum underload this case has took it right upto 70-72c :/ the case is

Coolermaster Silencio 550 Case | Ebuyer.com

and I do not recommend it to anyone, unless you have proper water cooling (which I do not and never will because I just don't trust it)

That is indeed a shit case. Are the case fans (if they exist) plugged into the mobo? Sounds like you have no flow of air inside the case if the temp drops like that when you pop off the side.

Edit - oh, bad airflow.. should've read the posts above. :)

I wouldnt run a cpu at 72 degrees.

When I built this current pc and fired it up I found the cpu would idle at 35 but, like you shoot up to 70 - odd under load.

Further investigation revealed that the stock cooler for an i7 is shite, I bought an Artic cooler for bugger all, £15 I think, and now it idles at 30 or less and doesnt ever go over 50 under load :)

I have a good case too, an Antec 900, made no difference.

I got that case too made my pc shut down it got so hot...ended up replacing the fans init ripping out the insullation and putting a new side panel on it.

Is indeed crap.

Arctic cooler master 13 replaced the 7. I had the 7 on my q6600 and the 13 on the i5. Both dropped there temp under load by about 10 degrees over the crap stock fan. They cost approx £15 so well worth the money

i've got an arctic cooler :) cpu is 43 atm, will try it underload now that the sides off and its had time to cooldown. As for cases Moriath can you recommend any good airflow cases? but pref with filters as I don't want dust clogging it up rapidly :p cause I used to have was an Antec 300, regret replacing it now.

taken the heat sink off the cpu, cleaned it, new goop *, etc ??
and made sure the fan /heatsink/etc is all touching properly ?

i moved a mobo tween cases, and the fan on the cpu came a bit loose.. was fine, but added about 30 degrees to it :(

other than that.. L2Watercool :D

last time i checked mine it was doing 45 degrees while playing rift on one screen and watching dvds on the other , idles around 30

It's no where near as noisy as it looks.

Yep, first thing I did when I get a new cooler was clean the old paste off and put new on / ensured they were touching properly.

Sounds silly, but have you made sure your case fans are not working against each other?

they're on correctly, when I noticed the massive temp increase first thing I did was strip the entire case/insides and put them in bit by bit :) the main issue with this case is the lack of and placement of the fans, it has 2 front fans which are placed perfectly and 1(I think it was 1) or 2 rear fans which are placed terrible
all the excess heat from the gfx card/cpu is basically being pushed passed these extraction points which is why its so hot, whoever designed the case clearly didnt have air cooling in mind thats for sure, its blatently made for nothing but water coolers... shame it didnt state that anywhere when I purchased it, crafty bastards.

It's not bad inside to be honest. Only real problem i have is that the front fan is a bloody cat hair magnet, and there's no practical way of cleaning it because you can't take of the fan guard or get in there from the inside without taking the bloody case apart. So all i can do is try to get it with a vacuum cleaner on the outside of the fan guard. But other then that, not a whole lot actually gets inside.

not just cut a pair of ladies tights up and fit it to the front? airflow still gets through fine then and the tights act as a filter for duster/hairs and what not.

I actually once put a couple of case fans in the dishwasher for a wash, then airing cupboard for a day or two and they worked fine afterwards :D
