CPU compatabilty question.

Question, is it possible/practical/useful to put a P4 540 into This Board Abit AS8 865PE chipset, or do I need to put that chip into a board with a 915 or 925 chipset with the subsequent wait for a pci-express grahics card ?

I think they go together, as the the Intel link says the 540 wants an 800FSB and an LGA775 socket, and the Abit link says that board has both those - so assuming the Abit site is accurate it would work.

I was just confused because the Intel site seemed to say the 5** were supported by the 915 and 925 chipsets. Although the Abit site did seem to indicate that it would work.

Well I got the board, the processsor and a 6800 xt and so far it is running fine, only had it a day and I think I fucked up with the SATA drive installation, it appears to be an IDE drive but still it is running
