Hmm, I thought it would be better.

It's basically the exact same thing as CoH with the slow leveling and it seems as if they only changed the name of the different archtypes :(

Anyone got a faster place to D/L the trial version from?

Fileplanet takes ages to load, somewhere around 14 hours :eek6:

I play on Defiant, got an alt on Union as well. CoV is alot better than CoH imo, leveling is faster and classes are much more balanced in general.

I am playing a Mastermind specced in Tech/Dark and it rocks, just sorry I haven't been able to play as much as I liked before the trial ran out.

I have an .exe file that works like the DAoC updater, basically downloading the whole game from CoV file servers which are very fast. Docwolfe and Cabbage used the file and it flew down for them as well, Doc got it in under 3 hours iirc.

Ok, I compressed the file with Winrar and uploaded to my webspace. You can grab it here...

http://www.btinternet.com/~james.finlan2/

...just unpack with Winrar and run the .exe and it will start downloading the whole game. I have put the same file in a .zip file just incase some people haven't left the stoneage and are still using winzip ;) :p Scanned with Symantec AV but please scan yourself, I don't want anyone to be taking risks.

Is the trial for US or for EU versions of CoV does anyone know? I've not looked yet cos I've got US accounts that are inactive atm and, although I could have transfered the CoH over to the EU, we didn't do it before CoV launched and so ended up with US versions of that.

Would be nice if they did a transfer cos half our mates who we played US with have buggered off to EU now.

I have a lvl 49 bot/ff mastermind and a 31 energy/dark brute.

I was the one who got cho onto it recently and i myself play it fairly casually but im pretty much addicted to the fact its great fun to just do what you like in. You dont feel like theres a huge rush to get 50 because levelling is a large part of the fun.

A lot of the repetitiveness of the missions happens in the mid levels and i think its inevitable of any game with a huge number of quests (in this case instances). If you, like i did go into it to enjoy the variety of enemies and stories involved you can forgive the parts where it gets repetitive and really enjoy the number of different enemies + interesting storys your contacts give you.

A large part of that boredom has also been improved with the new patch too which is really good and gives more freedom with better map variety, higher lvl cap, endgame content much much more structured pvp and whatnot. Also mayhem missions which i couldnt describe the fun of here :D. The 40-50 content is mindblowing in places especially the epic mission lines.

Its good for a laugh, and even better in a team of 2-X with people you know as the classes, while very hybridised use this to their advantage and gel very well together. Play lots of alts, get them to high lvl and enjoy the story along the way, if you see it as a game to just hit the cap and then look confused stay clear.

http://uk.pc.gamespy.com/pc/city-of-villians/712479p1.html for review of new patch, primarily mayhem missions - fun.

Btw - Best people are on Defiant server :)

Dels is my Mm's name anyway if anyone wants to look me up.

Downloaded it last night and I have to say I'm quite impressed. The character creation had me laughing my arse off for about 30 minutes and that was before I set a single step in the game. And then I got into the "one more mission... one more mission... one more mission ... fuck I have to work in 3 hours" thing that not a lot of MMO's have put me in recently.

I have no idea what I made ... I think one of the fightertypes and I have dark armor that drains powers from the netherworld... or .. something :p

Can someone explain me the deal about CoH/CoV I always thought it was one game ... and one side were the good guys and one side were the bad guys... like 2 realms in daoc... but apparantly it's a whole different game?

COH was the first one
COV is a stand alone addon pack / second game. you can play either on its own, if you have both you can obviously play both . with one you get 8 char slots, if you combine them you get 12, but if its on the same account you can play both as one game, ie £8 for both, you only pay for one not 2 :)
you can also play both sides on the same server.

Update file doesn't work for me Cho :/. And you have to pay to be a fileplanet member to download? Not really free then.

Yeah, i got the updater aswell, for both cov and coh, but the login don't work for those.

You need a trial version of the game to use the trial account...atleast with my account :(

Iz ok, got's it now.

Bollox, you don't have to pay on fileplanet to download it, get a regular free account then download the trial...

Like hell if I would pay for Fileplanet.

Btw, the Trial is for the US/EU, it all depends on which account you have from the start, or else it's your choice I think.

:/ just get free gamespy account, then it downloads the fileplanet downloader (takes like not even 1min!) and then 400kb/s, which for me is less than usual, fileplanet free servers usually 600kb/s for me on other games

they sell cov as a standalone, rather than an expansion, but it *is* an expansion for city of heroes.

lol, masterminds are one of the better pvp chars there is. atleast if u have mercenaries :) the flashbangs and the webs helps slow ppl down hehe. couple that with me jumping around like a rabbit on speed and the enemies either run or die as all i do is heal whatever pet they try to kill xD

M8 of mine has like a lvl 38-lvl 40 MM on an EU server, uses robot pets with forcefields as 2nd powers , bloody nasty they are, especially in PvP as one has a rocket launcher :p

Myself i have lvl 19 i think ice/lightning blaster called Master of Nothing :D

you mentioned running around like a rabbit on speed there... have you tried out super jump with super speed yet ? :) uber powers as nothing can lock onto me lol.

Pretty good game, lots of fun in a team / SG but PvP is extremely lacking compared to DAoC :(
