Pimping your own site is lame, even if you do post a lot of stuff here... be warned.

I'm not pimping my own site, I thought it was a funny story; it's not like I'm selling anything. I meant, be warned, possible massive influx of Countdown-related tunes hitting the media soon. :)

Agreed. Overly harsh Meg, lets not let this new set up of mods get out of hand before it even gets going...

There's new mods?

Oh no :(, watch as self importance and political correctness eat their minds in a rapid downward spiral.

Thanks.

I would like to know why I’ve been “warned” seeing as there doesn’t seem to be any official reply to this? I’d never intentionally do anything wrong so I would like to have things explained for future reference.

Assuming I’m not trying to sell anybody anything and I’m not trying to lure people away from the site, which I can assure you I was not and I don’t see how anyone can see it that way – I mean the link is to a site about York, where I live, so why would anyone want to go there instead of here? As far as I know I’m the only one on here from York so I shouldn’t be of much interest to most, I fully expected people to read the article about Countdown then come back here and comment on it or not – I don’t see what I could have to gain by it in a ‘pimping’ sense?

But anyway, in the future am I to understand that if I come across a post, image, article or whatever on a website that I think is funny, interesting or possible a topic of conversation on Freddy’s House that it is not okay to link to it if I personally had a hand in making the website; that I must say to myself, “Oo I could post that article about the Countdown DJ tune on Freddy’s, we were talking about Richard Whitely and such a while back; oh, but wait I can’t, it’s one of my sites so I’d obviously be pimping if I let anyone from here read it.”?

If that is the case just tell me and I wont link to anything on one of my sites again on this website (apart from in the webdev forums); I have to say that I do think it’s a little draconian though, I’m pretty sure lots of other people link to their own stuff like text, comics, pictures and such – or at least they used to do unless this is a new rule?

Whats wrong with the link?
Nothing major, its just him linking to his own website. If some noob came along and did the same you'd all be bitching and moaning that it was spam.

The fact that the content is nothing more than a rip of an Independent article in any event also makes this "i'm not pimping my own stuff" smell all the more like horseshit (link).

Regards
Meg

PS: Gumbo, thanks for your opinion, but I've not been out of hand, it's not like I've banned anyone, just pointed out to someone if they were planning on doing this sorta thing repeatedly that it would be taken as being lame.

PPS: Under General Conduct in the COC

Especially portraying such work as your own. This is otherwise known as, "RIPPING". Rippers are not permitted here, and if you are caught stealing others work you will be banned.

So I'm not allowed to link to my own sites then? That's all I wanted to know. I never said it was my stuff, I never posted it there myself - it's just an article related to York or Yorkshire; it says at the top who wrote it and where it came from, which I guess is how you found where it came from?

No, what I'm saying is that because you've linked to your own as supposed to just straight to the Independant, it's come across to me as you pimping your own site.

I don't personally object to you linking to your own site, I can just see a time where it would become a bad habbit, i.e. the source eventually gets no credit. Basically, it's preferable to link to the original.

Okay, to be honest I probably would have linked to the original but I couldn't be arsed to go and look for it; it was more of a spur of the moment thing.

Can't see the problem personally, maybe if it was some "Random Noob" as you put it, but then Maljonics a regular visitor here.

It's not like he signed up today just to post it is it. Your post didn't make much sense to me Mystic. The 2 scenarios you compared really don't work how you want them to. ;)

What double standard? I'm not talking about signatures (hence the fact I've not mentioned them).
