I'm not pimping my own site, I thought it was a funny story; it's not like I'm selling anything. I meant, be warned, possible massive influx of Countdown-related tunes hitting the media soon.MYstIC G said:Pimping your own site is lame, even if you do post a lot of stuff here... be warned.
Gumbo said:Agreed. Overly harsh Meg, lets not let this new set up of mods get out of hand before it even gets going...

I would like to know why I’ve been “warned” seeing as there doesn’t seem to be any official reply to this? I’d never intentionally do anything wrong so I would like to have things explained for future reference.
Assuming I’m not trying to sell anybody anything and I’m not trying to lure people away from the site, which I can assure you I was not and I don’t see how anyone can see it that way – I mean the link is to a site about York, where I live, so why would anyone want to go there instead of here? As far as I know I’m the only one on here from York so I shouldn’t be of much interest to most, I fully expected people to read the article about Countdown then come back here and comment on it or not – I don’t see what I could have to gain by it in a ‘pimping’ sense?
But anyway, in the future am I to understand that if I come across a post, image, article or whatever on a website that I think is funny, interesting or possible a topic of conversation on Freddy’s House that it is not okay to link to it if I personally had a hand in making the website; that I must say to myself, “Oo I could post that article about the Countdown DJ tune on Freddy’s, we were talking about Richard Whitely and such a while back; oh, but wait I can’t, it’s one of my sites so I’d obviously be pimping if I let anyone from here read it.”?
If that is the case just tell me and I wont link to anything on one of my sites again on this website (apart from in the webdev forums); I have to say that I do think it’s a little draconian though, I’m pretty sure lots of other people link to their own stuff like text, comics, pictures and such – or at least they used to do unless this is a new rule?
Nothing major, its just him linking to his own website. If some noob came along and did the same you'd all be bitching and moaning that it was spam.Ch3tan said:Whats wrong with the link?
All board users agree not to post any material that is protected by copyright, trademark or other proprietary right without the express permission of the owners of said copyright, trademark or other proprietary right. Especially portraying such work as your own. This is otherwise known as, "RIPPING". Rippers are not permitted here, and if you are caught stealing others work you will be banned.

The fact that the content is nothing more than a rip of an Independent article in any event also makes this "i'm not pimping my own stuff" smell all the more like horseshit (link).

Meg
PS: Gumbo, thanks for your opinion, but I've not been out of hand, it's not like I've banned anyone, just pointed out to someone if they were planning on doing this sorta thing repeatedly that it would be taken as being lame.
