Cortisone

Has anyone here had a Cortisone injection before ? In particular to treat "Tennis Elbow" ?

I've been told you need a local anesthetic before it, sounds bloody scary, especially if you are shit scared of needles like I am, anyone give some advice, like how long it takes to recover etc.

A guy I worked with had them every 6 months or so in a dodgy hip, he was an ex miner and put it down to all the hard work us southern soft shites don't do, anyway...

He would be in a lot more pain for a couple of days after, but then said it was great for a few months, looks like the usual sort of thing, lots of gain for a bit of pain.

Cotizone is just a steroid so it's anti-inflammatory and the local anaesthetic is given just as an aid to the anti-inflammatory action of the steroid, ie. to reduce the pain that's already there as a result of your tennis elbow or whatever.

The cortizone injection itself isn't anything to worry about, no more painful than a normal injection - infact probably less so because of the anaesthetic being administered at the same time

That's probably hydrocortisone, and I don't think it's as strong as the injection would be, nor the same thing (strictly speaking).

Yes but it's the same as cortisone cream available in the US (mentioned by the DAoC leper ).

I've had it in my shoulder twice following a small tear of my rotator cuff... it's like any other injection really. Bit sore the next day, but that's about it.
