One year ago today I was travelling up the M4 to Cardiff for Wales v Italy, 2 years ago today I was on the Eurostar to Paris for Wales v France. Today I am getting quite bored of Lockdown 3.0.

With the huge amount of vaccines being rolled out I can see light at the end of the tunnel now, I'm hoping things get a bit more relaxed and safer by the summer.

That's something I've not heard when watching shill news. There are actually quite a few requirements for taking the pfizer jab. The amount of "Are you on this, or this, or this or have this" questions was interesting. Had the flu jab recently? Enjoy being tuned away.

For the Flu shot the recommendation is two weeks separation, Flu shots were offered too many over 50's months ago. This really shouldnt have been an issue unless you have been under a rock for the last 3 months.

pneumococcal vaccine is an option that was made free at the back end of last year to various parties, underlying medical conditions etc. It was recommended due to the Covid 19 pandemic for many as it offered some protection against the side effects of CV19. I'm not sure if there is an issue with on going meds if thats what he took.

Besides being in Swedish which isn't a problem since Chrome will translate anyway it is also behind a paywall :)

I'm hazarding a guess it is about the extra 75 million doses Pfizer will be supplying to the EU by the end of Q2, which is good news.

It is double for the year .... basically it says that in spite of the AZ issue everyone should still have their vaccine by mid June (the promise to the people)... for those that want to wait as the vaccine is so new there will be plenty for them after the summer.... with extra to spare. The new contract takes in to account variants so if the formula needs updating these will also include changes for mutations...

There are around 30,000 variants out there last I checked - if you're going to shit the bed every time a virus does what a virus does this is going to be a VERY long year.

I don't think anyone is that fussed about every single mutation, just the ones that make it more transmissible, the symptoms worse or make it harder to treat, or even those that make the existing vaccines less effective. So far they are have said they can adapt the vaccine to the different mutations, but that's not to say that the general attitude to mutations should be 'lol mates is fine lol'

Oh yes absolutely. It's bad enough the Kent variant turned you into a bitter drinker with a strange fascination with Spitfires, now it's merged with the SA Variant it turns you into a rude racist also. Maybe they could blend it a bit with the Brazillian variant and we'll all become fantastic dancers?

And yes, I am taking the piss. The breathless reporting every time a virus does what it does is getting ridiculous frankly considering the absolute battering this country's mental health is getting. I would suggest that unless it mutates into Ebola or crosses with Lujo, might be best for the media to shut the fuck up and let us get on with the vaccines so we can get back to normal.

I've heard it does wonders for your footballing ability as well.

Any chance we could spread it round Hampden?

I did see some people robbing tourists at gun point this morning, I wondered what that was about.

You say media, but it seems its scientists who are also concerned about the new variant, but I guess that's because they wanna stay relevant and get paid lots, like global warming.

What would your solution be? Wait until a new variant kills of x amounts of people THEN do something about it?

I would suspect with @Wij comment it is more likely to give the impression of helping with cricket or baseball.

FHoM recommending AZ vaccine for under 65s also BUT they have stated that it is effective and safe even if there are doubts about AZ protective effect of the elderly

I'm sure he has died a relatively happy man after living to 100 and raising all that money over the last year! RIP.

Agreed, whilst always sad, definitely a case of celebrating a life well lived.

Don't know about that. He'd just recovered from pneumonia so might have been well fucked off. Especially as he knew he could be vaccinated against it.

Good innings tho.

Nearly 500k have now had their second dose. Just shy of 10 million vaccinated.

Motoring along at long last, need to do much better though.

Found this funny

The number of people suffering from flu has plunged by 95 per cent to levels not seen for well over a century, with a senior Oxford boffin declaring that influenza has been “almost completely wiped out” by lockdown. What great news. And when you consider that deaths on the road have diminished thanks to the decline in driving, along with deaths on holiday and deaths by accident in the workplace, it becomes clear that if nobody ever leaves home again nobody need ever die of anything! Hurrah! So, er, now what?

The drink themselves to death instead:

Flu has disappeared everywhere, even places with very light restrictions (Sweden, Florida, South Dakota) so it's probably more a case that COVID is simply out competing it rather than anything particular we're doing - although I'm told norovirus has disappeared as well, now hand washing is actually a thing.

Which is all you need to know to show that Covid is a vastly different virus than flu.

I will be eternally happy if winter vomitting disease (swedish name for norro) has fucked off for good.... I have been disinfecting my hands Jan to Mar since I had it 6 or 7 years ago... caught it on public transport :(

Wow. A 16% increase - an extra 873 self-inflicted deaths. Covid polishes that shit off in a morning.

Love to believe that wouldn't you. It's the only straw you've got left to grasp at to suit your narrative.

Given viruses across the board are taking a panning (flu, norovirus, STDs, yadda yadda yadda) it seems that Occam's Razor is appropriate here.

5% of historical levels of flu suggest, even if competition is a factor, that lockdowns are working very very well - and the handful of deaths from all other sources simply pale in comparison to the deaths we're preventing using lockdowns.

Not entirely sure why you keep drivelling on about the comparison between the 'rona and flu considering the only person to compare the two is currently banned.

Anyway, flu has disappeared becuase of the rules we have in place. COVID is spreading becuase no one is following them. Got it? Good.
