If staying in with a good friend or partner what things do you lot normally cook (and no lame comments - "I get take out!") and what wines are prefered?

Myself, I normally cook quite elaborate, as in time consuming, meals (for a lowly student anyways!!!) like a nice roast chicken and all the trimmings to if I'm feeling very fluffy such dishes like Peking style roast duck. Last night we had some nice Texan and Cajun chicken drumsticks with battered dippers and honey mustard sauce.

As for wine I don't mind red or white, but lately I have noticed it always seems to Australian Chardonnay, at least two bottles of the stuff.

Well, when it comes to cooking (i.e: not re-heating something from a box) I like making pasta dishes, casseroles, chilli's or a full sunday lunch (similiar to what I'm cooking at this moment :)).

But for the life of me I can't make a curry and my baking sucks! :(

I hate pasta as it reminds me of being a poor student. When pasta was served it was only because it was the last bit of food left in the cupboard and I had fuck all money ;/

wine and fresh bread and parmesan and wine and cheese and creme brulee and wine and mad se><or? wow mate, you were a richer student than little I :)
pasta owns! you can do anything with it, from a budget meal to a full-on feast. I made an oven dish for a veggie lady friend of mine a few weeks ago: little pasta envelopes with pear and parmesan inside, covered with white sauce and grated parmesan, pear/goat cheese/baby lettuce salad on the side, two bottles of a robust red...uh...I'll stop now :)

get a nice sized salmon fillet season with rock salt and black pepper, cut half a lemon into rings and place on salmon, wrap salmon loosely in tin foil and sling in oven for half an hour.

easy to do but looks and tastes great.

Italian food is from the heavans \o/.

When we have frinds round I like to do a good meal with plenty of the vino tinto or vino blanco

Starter-Asparagus baked with Parma Ham and Parmesan or hoem made ministroni soup
Main A steak in a red wine, Garlic and Olive sauce. or Chicken in a white wine and garlic sauce.
Dessert-Taramisu

All served Served with a bottle of Bardolino or Frascati Superior

As an alternative you can use whole (gutted) Rainbow Trout, not at all expensive. Leave the heads/tails on then fillet on the plate, beady eyes watching while you eat :) Nice with Jersey New spuds, skins on, loads of butter or a creamy sauce.
Spag Bog is always a winner if feeding a few people.

Just thought of another one from my "Yoof".

Any type of pasta.
Some ham.
Campbells Cream of Mushroom Soup.

Cook pasta, heat soup, add Ham to soup (some white wine also if required), Serve.

Big bag of Mussels from the market, cook em up in some cider, white wine, onions, bit of cream, salt, pepper and a few herbs of choice.

Quick, simple and mmm alchohol included, obviously you also drink the rest of the white wine during the meal and finish off the cider once the wine runs out...

Mussels are lovely. There's a pub in town that serves a lovely kilo of em in a big bowl. Should be for 2 to share but I have it by myself :)

I think I have alchohol poisoning, I ordered loads of food and stuff from Tesco. They always fuck something up when they deliver it, this time they sent me two 4lr boxes of red wine. I only ordered one, some mates came round on Friday and we kept drinking till about 9am on Saturday. I still feel really ill.

The missus is veggie and I cant be assed to cook twice so things like spinach and ricotta canneloni or Vegetable Fajita's etc. etc are pretty good - I spend more time on the side dishes than the main though - carrots cooked with maple syrup are pretty nice, italian flatbreads are easy, little mini rosti , fresh made gnochi... mmm hungry now...

Cooking is way too boring

I get bored waiting for 2 turkey steaks to cook in the over (25mins). I am also known to make yorkshire pudding and pancakes, but thats my skills exhausted :)
