I pay 30€ a month 512/128 ADSL in France (with ... Wanadoo :D ) but they give the ADSL modem for free (it cost 150€) or an MP3 walkman (and sometimes DAOC for free too ;) )
In the areas where there is a strong competition between ISP (e.g. Paris, Lyon and other big cities), it is 30€ a month 1M/256 ADSL.

The cheap good connections (I mean >2Mbits for 40€ or 50€) can only been in the small countries (like Sweden, Belgium, Denmark, The Netherland, etc. ) because the gov. pay the infrastructures. It's impossible in big contries like UK, France, Spain or Germany.

I do hope your joking lol

Come to ireland for a year and you will realise how nice you have it. Ireland at the moment has its telecom monopolised by Eircom, as it stands there is three companys offering broadband around ireland, Eircom, Esat and NTL. NTL has great prices like what you mentioned in england, but only in the one town in ireland :p. Esat is more to the west and the arseholes Eircom got the east. If your lucky enough to pass the ADSL test, you get the benefit of having to pay €105 a month folks, for a 2.5gig cap. Of course you could allways go with ISDfuckingexpensiveN which costs 40€ a month rental, and on top of that a lovely 1.5cent a minute off-peak, and 3cent peak :)

Currently there is no flat rate dial ups available in ireland, the closest we have is from UTV and Esat, who offer 150 hours per month for 30 euros which you still need to pay the 40yo-yos line rental, for 56k and single channel ISDN (64k), however they also take over your bill and you end up signing your soul away more than likely.

goooooOOOOOooooooooooooooooOOOOOO Ireland

My work pays for mine, but it would be £19.95 a month for 512/256 ADSL with Pipex in the UK if I had to cough up for it myself :)

Seriously, where do you live and what ISP?

Best deal I heard of in swe so far is the Scream deal where you can get 26mbit for for a laughable amount of money a month if you live close to a central.

Here in Belgium almost 45% goes to the taxes :p

anyway, think I pay about 37€ / month for 512/256

For people in the UK...

I use Eclipse internet. Seems pretty reliable, only the odd LD, once a week maybe. Not very much lag... A few of my guildmates recommended them and I've been happy with them so far.

Basic package is £20.38 (about £24 when including VAT) per month for the 512/256

Price listing for them:
http://www.eclipse.net.uk/index.cfm?id=bbprice

(and no, they aren't paying me to write this, although they are quite welcome to ;) )
