Connecting a console via hdmi through a pc monitor

I know its possible but what I really want to know is the possibility of connecting it while the pc is on? see below

Say for example I had

PC connected to Monitor1 and Monitor2(Monitor I intend on connecting the console to via hdmi)

Would it be possible to say turn on said console and take control of the second monitor for console purposes while the PC is still on and working on Monitor1? or is there some software to do so?

If the monitor has dual inputs you should have a input button on it. The monitor will show the PC up until the PC either turns power saves the monitor or you press the button to switch to the HDMI input.
