This link quite clearly states that the crime figures are on a downward spiral pretty much across the board but the way that the media portrays it you are going to be shot, stabbed, raped, buggered, murdered, all at the same time the moment you step out of your house.

The annual crime report for 2007-2008 reveals the longest recorded period of falling crime - down 48% from 1995.

It shows there were five million recorded crimes. All the main categories were down, including violent crime and sex offences, but drug offences were up 18%, gun crime was up 2% and murder was up 3%.

I live in London, and know it like the back of my hand. Its a great city. Sure there's crime and scumbags, but you get that in every city. The media tend to blow things way out of proportion. There are some seriously dodgy parts of London (eg. Harlesden NW10, most of SE14, Angel Town Estate in Brixton, St Agnes Place in Kennington, etc) but every city has its bad areas. The good far, far outweigh the bad.

Whatever, I live and work in south london (in two areas quite far apart) and they are both bad. The youth of today ahve little respect and know they are pretty much untouchable. I have had two members of staff threatened with a knife, and one stabbed in the areas of London they live in. I know, or have had friends of friends (3) that have died as a result of guns or knives in the last 2 years.

The media may hype things up, but it is not an innacurate potrayal of what a fucked up place this country and London in particular has become.
