I adimit Teaspoon is a little silly, only did it since I needed a name people would recognise the TS part in when I started.

Theres fun in some names, I remember one American player named "Ideulforcheese Andotherdairyproducts".

I dont think that if his last name is "ShitBomb" that he should really get away with it ;)

When I still played on Albion I had a big argument with two guildies who had grouped with you (that was way back last year.. March or April;))

I refused to join because of your name.
Stupid name = go figure.

Still play by that rule.
And I am happy with it.

Fair play - Tho in defence I still play serriously and do pride myself on knowing how to play an armsman (so far) with some degree of ability in PvE.

Tho you not wanting to group with me is my own fault, and if people avoid me on a silly name, then hey, its your choice :)

I don't know what characters you play in DAoC, but "Uncle Sick(tm)" and Animul are pretty fucking stupid names, and if you don't group with someone because they are named Teaspoon, that's pretty hypocritical and immature of you.

I have a spiritmaster named Challenged Vertically, and don't have a problem getting groups, and neither should anyone unless their name is offensive.

I agree with the original post - its a thinly veiled play on words, even if you are going to haggle about exact spelling - a slight misspelling so you can possibly argue your way out when the true intent is fairly obvious.

However, regarding silly names, I think you have to be a little careful. Often in real life, people aquire quite bizarre sounding nicknames but there is often a backstory behind them, some incident that happened during the person's life which earned them that name. Its quite possible to roleplay it and make it clever, but few I've seen ever do.

I don't have a problem with silly names as such (bit guilty of that myself), but the ones which have names which you can't justify at all in the game setting I'm not really happy with, though they crop up everywhere and often the players themselves are really nice.

Particular naming bugbear for me is ones with adjectives and verbs in them though - saw a char called Ieat Crayons and chuckled and winced at the same time.

EDIT: Wonder how long I could get away with a char called Pogue Mahone :D

And that's exactly why you shouldn't bother trying to use my forum nicks as examples.

As stated a couple of times before: I am a roleplayer - therefore I choose (hopefully;)) fitting names in-game.
And I roleplay.

Not grouping with 'funny' named players is my rule.
I don't try to make it yours.

And Teaspoon, having read a good deal of your posts on BW, I meanwhile know you are not a (total:p) brainer.

But see? How could I know back then? ;)
"Funny name = go figure" applies in 95% of all cases.
And I am not taking chances.

Other than a good deal of people posting here, I don't have hours and hours to spend on DAoC, my hobby - so I choose carefully to make my invested spare time worthwhile.

I bet my guildmate Esola (-the- most underrated person in Midgard, I love his underground appeal) did you a favour, then, when he got your surname fixed.

Eh, Mr. Cunnilingus? Oh, sorry, that was your maiden name.

I think it's funny that it's mostly spelling impaired people who find all those funny, funny, funny names amusing...

such authentic roleplay. i bet the medieval ages were full of people going around asking others name and refusing to talk to them or have business with them if they thought it funny.

but then, i bet there also were plenty of groups of 2-8 ppl in old england that killed and killed and killed little goblins for hours and hours and hours. so its just fitting.

Oh I know, I aggree, silly named people can sometimes be far too much trouble, and I dont blame you for avoiding me, going by your understandable rule. Even if I meet a group of roleplayers, I do my best to go with the flow, even with a silly name, and a big inability to RP anyway :)

And thanks, I'll keep that quote above forever now :)

the CoC forbids names that are taken from movies and books and such aswell I think.

i think its great GOA arent hard on that rule because if they were then we wouldnt have a great guild like Fedaykin (from Frank Herberts Dune) around.

and i personally have nothing against people who have 'funny' names, unless is something stupid like shithead. Challenged Vertically is a great name, wish i had thought of that first :p

i myself have what some people would call 'funny' names, but if you find Lilleabe Pirat (small monkey pirate) offensive then YOU are the one who needs to grow up :)

Well, if it was spelled Lanfear it wouldn't be original, but it's not.

Ever seen someone else named Lanfaer? No? Quite original then?

I think you are on the wrong boards - try here. Don't want you to get all confused.

Now roleplay a good kid, grab a cookie and off to Excaliber.50 with you!

Have you guys seen anyone named something similar to Legolas?

Is there a huge difference between Legolas and Legolaas or some other similar name to Legolas? There are loads of characters in daoc that have names similar to filmic characters or characters in books that are famous and wellknown. Have their names been changed? I dont think so.

If the "name" Diaree actually means something in some language that might be offensive, report it then and see what GoA does about it, simple as that. If you take a word and translate it into something else... well, It surely aint a reason to post about it here imo.

Regarding lastnames, I wonder if GoA have some sort of filter where they add offensive lastnames. If not, if BAJSbomb is reported, what stops the person from changing into the same lastname again? Will it result in some sort of punishment? Hmm.

So, you only met 1 np player then.
Who cares about you?

Lay off NP fgs. Whatever happened on PvP is in the past. PvP brings out the worst in people.

So wrong. PvP was a place where ppl showed their true colors.
War Nerdz and Nolby [insert insult here] proved it.
