1952: GOAL Arsenal 0-2 Man Utd (agg 0-3)
Oh my goodness gracious me. What on earth is going on here? Cristiano Ronaldo is fouled by Robin van Persie. It's about 35 yards out, far right. No chance... but Ronaldo steps up and belts an absolute screamer past Manuel Almunia at his near post. Fergie can't believe it. Neither can I.

That's some sucker punch. Anderson plays in Cristiano Ronaldo on the left and Kieran Gibbs slips catastrophically as he tries to clear the winger's cut-back. That leaves Ji-Sung Park to take a touch before beating Manuel Almunia to the ball and finishing into the far corner.

hahahaha yaaay!

BBC Sport's David Garrido at the Emirates: "The Emirates was deafening for precisely seven minutes. And now there's one corner of the stadium making all the noise, chanting 'Viva Ronaldo' - the home fans are stunned, simply gobsmacked."

The arsenal home-fans are shite. They're always boo'ing at their own players, if things doesn't go their way.

That's just from my experience. I don't watch all that much english footy, so feel free to disagree with me.

I miss the good old Viera - Keane aggressions from these matches :)

Im disappointed at Arsenal.... they started with nice football and then collapsed after goals. They got none of the ambition, pace and will that they showed in the first 7 minutes when they looked dangerous and constantly harrassed the utd players.

If they wanted an example to go by they should just look at that liverpool vs chelsea game where neither team gave up even when it was looking bad. I guess the youth of arsenal team is haunting them in that respect.

Doesn't help when your own manager sits down with his head in his hands and looks defeated. Nothing from Cesc as captain trying to motivate them either. They have no leaders on the pitch.

yeah stadium went completely silent after parks goal, thought it had been disallowed! wonder if anderson will ever score for man utd he doesnt look confident in front of goal at all keeps passing it off rather than shooting! :p

no Arshavin in champs league to score 4 goals and keep it interesting though :(

what an absolute joker of a referee, some of the softest decisions i've ever seen. that one given against adebayor when vds ran in to him... wtf was that about?

also, the offside rule needs looking at again. that thing with ronaldo running and not being given offside cos he didn't touch the ball that went to fletcher... if half of the arsenal defence are running towards ronaldo, how does that not count as interfering with play?

hah, 41yrds on the freekick. That insane, the keeper really should have done better with it.

And the referee is given silly decisions to both sides (been waiting for a "ref is biased" post but may as well get in there now.)

Well it not that he giving silly decisions... he giving very European decisions as some freekicks dont get given in the English game.... that said Song on Ronaldo was pretty poor and surprised a yellow didnt come out... Nasri had me laughing, you got to be crazy getting in the face of an angry Scotsman and tell him to shutup

Edit:
the ade on vds decision... it was soft but keeper always gets that protection, especially if you got your arms up and direct it towards their face. Fair jump or not, the moment your arms go near the face of a keeper they get a freekick. It something that always annoyed me.

As for the offside rule. Arsenal benefited from that rule last week (hello bedtner running and stopping infront of the keeper when offside and shot come in, blocking keeper view and distracting him so the ball can roll in.

I didn't think Song on Ronaldo was a nasty tackle, it only looked worse because Fabregas collided with both.

hehe, fletcher isn't the most intimidating person around.

me neither. He was a half second away from hitting the ball.

think it was the flick of the foot from song at the last minute that gave it a nasty factor (maybe that was just me though)

That was a great break by utd there and why i thought if we got the first goal the game could go clearly in our favour...

Anderson looks so damn happy come off there. Good for the lad and shows why he one of mine (and the misses) fave utd players.

Arsenal finally trying to play, nasri seems to be their heartbeat at the moment, just a sucker punch that when they trying to get back in the game utd tear them apart on the counter.

edit

gah berbatov on... there goes any idea of counter attacks :p

Counters still on, he sits forward and ronaldo and giggs will do the running and use him to pass off.

well arsenal fans can stop complaining about the ref... but looked a perfect tackle by fletcher......

i hope that the uefa appeal committee is ready to recind that red card so fletcher can play the final.

Commentators seem to think there is no appeal process in place, but they do work for ITV, so wouldn't take to much faith in that.

no fucking appeal allowed for that shit decision... that is outrageous and fletcher should sue uefa :p

no it wasnt... so should check out the issue before commenting.... it was carrick...

adebyor should be red carded for that ankle breaking tackle

edit 2:

referee should come out in public and say he wants to recind the red card but not allowed, that would put a fun amount of presure on uefa... though they wont change the rules for this year :(

edit 3:

that decision has ruined the game now for me... was enjoyable up to then even with the silly referee decisions, they hadnt been game breaking until then.

It's a silly rule (the lack of appeals), but then again UEFA are very concious that so many bad decisions are made that allowing appeals would make a farce of the refs.

I feel sorry for Gibbs, and there was nothing you could do about the free kick only thing that upsets me is after that it was never close we never had enough to get back into it.

I just hope its the normal paper bullshit that Cesc will leave if we didn't make the final.
