Champion - Shield / Blabes Spec

Hello, wonder if someone could help me please.

I have a l34 Champion (main char) who is mainly specc'd in shield (l33 spec with +2 from my shield = 35), and l25 on Blades (with +3 from various adds = 28).

When in combat with yellow mobs I deal approx 40-50 dam with blade weapon (no style), 70-90 (with style), and 90-110 with shield using Bash (ie after successful block).

Is this normal?

The shield is orange (can't remember its name), and the blades weapon is the Pestilent sickle (yellow to me).

I can solo yellows quite easily as I rarely get hit due to block and parry, but because of the low damage output each battle takes a long time. Solo'ing Oranges is touch and go. I struggle even more in BG.

Is my damage output normal, or am I doing something drastically wrong.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Typical champ spec for 1h/shield at level 50is 50 valour 42 shield 39 1h weapon and rest parry (some sacrifice valour to go 44 1h weapon).

As that final spec is about 80% shield and slightlly less 1h weapon, at your level you might have shield a bit high ( nearly 100% and weapon a bit low (70%) and that is why you might have slightly lower damage although you are above the recommended 66%. You might be able to compensate with some sced stuff giving you + to blades (+7 at your level I think off the top of my head) which would help a bit

not sure what to say to you dude..

You not gonna ever deal great amounts of damage as a champion specd in s/s. Some however will argue you will be the best defensive tank availble (even without large sheilds)

I would go for 50 valor, 42 sheild, 39 blades, 6 parry.

Blades because unless your a luri pierce will suck. And low level blunt styles are sucky too imo.

I'd agree with Vodka here, Blades spec champs have little use for parry. The only thing it's going to give is *slightly* better defense (I have 27+11 parry as a LW champ, and I'll parry maybe once a battle, sometimes twice somtimes never, in PvE and it's worse RvR I've heard), and there are no reactionary styles within Blades or Pierce and only a chain starting at 39 for blunt.

Then again, with the upcoming style review this might change, but that won't be for a long time yet!

But then again, with valor spec empty from 42 to 47, what else you gonna spend the point on?

with shield your character is defensive and not supposed to deal much damage, but like you said you can last very long in battle. to maximize your damage output don`t use anytime styles, use your endurance for after-parry/block/evade styles/chains or use positional styles if you play in a group and someone else hold aggro. use the dd every time the reuse timer is reset.

if you spec 50 LW, 50 valor is a good choice - no doubt.

in case you spec shield the endurance/mana cost is an important factor because combat take longer, besides that you need the points from 40->50 valor for other skills. i went 40valor 50shield 40pierce 11parry with my champion and love it: 40 valor is pretty much the endurance/mana cost i wanted and 50 shield is just lovely defense for casters. after debuff enemy str/con you block alot more than a shield hero and after using dex/qui debuff you can also hit attackers with high defense. 40 pierce for weaponskill and styles, mainly because critical alb/mid support classes wear chain armor which is vulnerable to thrust. 11 parry are leftover points, could have spec 41 pierce but that would result in 6 parry.

just make sure the way you spec your character suits your playstyle, there are many options how to skill. its your choice if you spec the character according to your playstyle or adjust your playstyle to how the character is specced, the final spec won`t leave much room for different playstyles with a champion. i`d recommend you look at what you want to do and spec the character accordingly tho (LW=offense, shield=defense)

if you want to be able to switch between offense and defense roll a hero, champions simply don`t have enough spec points to have both at a satisfying level.

Thats my luri champs 50 spec, hes currently 44. I've played a caster since day 1 so I know how much guard is worth.

champions are the worst offensive melee in hib due to lack of determination and timers on their spells. agree.

champions are the best defensive class in the game though, the debuffs make alot of a difference when guarding. only CC you have to worry about then is mezz and that can be dispelled. keep in mind that champions got decent range on their spells, so still can assist "picker" with debuff/dd/snare while standing next to the caster you guard.

fyi my champ had 50 LW before respec to shield. if i had autotrained, spec would be 50valor 50shield 29pierce 11parry. could compensate the mana/endu drain from 50valor with potions if needed.

hmm i've heard something else but never tried if they actually get autotrains, kinda nice from mythic since other hybrids do get autotrains (paladin get slash _and_ chants autotrained, thats 154 free points at 48...)

...hmm this is completely OT now, sorry. let's not make this thread a discussion about any classes except champions?
