Certain websites have just stopped working?

So I'm sat here at about 3am last night refreshing favourites (as you do) when suddenly http://forums.somethingawful.com does down. Not to worry I tell myself, its probably just some downtime on their part. Next thing I know, http://fbtz.com/forum (football forum) is down, as is www.arseblog.com (arsenal blog, not porn)

I've had other people check the websites and they are indeed still working, so can anybody explain this? I haven't altered any settings, and my router lights are all fine. Is there something all of these forums use, that my browser has a conflict with or what? Basically, I just the the "connecting to <url>..." thing in firefox, then a message saying "the operation timed out when attempting to contact <url>"

Edit - I should mention I've tried them in Internet Explorer as well, and the same thing occurs.

Ignore this. It seems to have magically fixed itself.

It sounds like an MTU issue luv.

If it happens again change your MTU to something lower or higher than its set at or download Network Optimiser that usually sorts it.

Urgh, it seems to have done it again. fbtz works now, but youtube doesn't. How do I change this setting? I don't see it in the network bit.

Get network optimiser chum, that should help. Do a google for it, its a free program.

Who is your ISP?

MTU setting is usually in the router settings, not sure where it is on an ADSL modem.

My ISP is BT. 512k shitty ADSL countryside connection that cuts out all the fucking time.

I got that software, and it works for a while then it goes shit again.

i'm with BT too. Regularly cuts out 4-5 times every night. Only for about 5 seconds or so, then its backup again. But enough to fuck any http download or game i'm playing.
