I've got a Toshiba cd/dvdw ts-h552u cd drive thingy, and since I got me pc back (its working great now) its been unable to read discs. If I put an audio cd in then it asks if I want to play it, opens in media player with the list of tracks, but doesn't play them when I ask. If I put a game from a cd or dvd disc in then it doesn't autoplay as it should and when I go to my computer and manually double click the drive, it freezes up and windows goes all slow and mental for a while, until I eject the disc again. Does anyone know why this could be, or how it can be fixed? I can't play FM2005 at the minute cus it won't read me ruddy disc! Ta, ya shitters.

Couple of things it could be.

IDE cable and power cable seated right.
Everything showing in bios, Not just this drive, but all drives/devices on IDE
Try new ide cable.
Master/slave set correct.
Is it sharing a cable, If so try it on its own.
Try a new power plug.
Try a Linux live cd/dvd. See if it boots into linux from drive.
Windows fault maybe, Any 3rd party software running in back ground that access to cd/dvd drive(nero incd for 1).
Mainboard IDE fault, Try a different drive on the IDE socket. Try ya boot HDD.
Dirty disc been used in it. Try a disc cleaner(Hate these, Use at own risk :p).
Faulty/damaged heads, Is it still under warranty.
RMA or replace.

Good Luck :)
